She comes back to tell me she's gone
As if I didn't know that
As if I didn't know my own bed
As if I'd never noticed
The way she brushed her hair from her forehead
And she said losing love
Is like a window in your heart
Everybody sees you're blown apart
Everybody sees the wind blow

And the hangovers hurts more than they used to.
Corn bread and iced tea took the place of pills and 90 proof.

I don't know why you want to tell me
when I'm right or when I'm wrong.
It's the same thing, in your mind-the only time
I'm right is when I play along.

Tried to stay, tried to run
Never been enough reason to believe in anyone
This trickle down theory, has left all these pockets empty

Uncle Tupelo - Postcard

when the bible is a bottle
and the hardwood floor is home
when morning comes twice a day or not at all
if I break in two will you put me back together
when this puzzle's figured out will you still be around

Uncle Tupelo - Still be around

crawling back to you now
I sold my guitar to the girl next door
she asked me if I knew how
I told her I don't think so anymore

They all seemed the same

This Hotel Bed don't fit,
But I guess I gotta lie in it.
Cuz I made it on the day I split.

"And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make" - The Beatles

"one last thing before I quit
I never wanted any more than I could fit into my head
I still remember every single word you said
and all the shite that somehow came along with it
still there's one thing that comforts me
since I was always caged and now I'm free" - Foo Fighters

"Out on the road today
I saw a Dead Head sticker on a cadillac.
A little voice inside my head said 'don't look back, you can never look back.'
I thought I knew what love was.
What did I know?
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go" -Don Henley

Robert Eark Keen has quite a few.

From Dreadful Selfish Crime:

"I had a little place just up the block
Had me a French girlfriend I loved the way she talked
We spent our afternoons watchin' the TV
Findin' things to do that we could do for free
When we split up she said you don't do enough for me"

From Front Porch Song:

"This old porch is like a weathered grey haired seventy years of Texas
Who’s doin' all he can not to give in to the city
And he always takes my rent late so long as I run his cattle
He picks me up at dinner time and I listen to him rattle

He says the Brazos still runs muddy like she's run all along
There’s never been no cane to grind and the cotton's all but gone
You know this Chevrolet pickup truck, hell she was somethin' back in '60
But now there won't nobody listen to him 'cause they all think he's crazy

This old porch is just a long time of waiting and forgetting
Remembering the coming back and not crying about the leaving
And remembering the falling down and the laughter of the curse of luck
From all those son's of bitches who said we'd never get back up"

Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl wrote this one together. Lyle's version is one of my favorite songs in the world.

"And this old porch is like a steaming, greasy plate of enchiladas
With lots of cheese and onions
And a guacamole salad
And you can get'em down at the lasalle hotel
In old downtown
With iced tea and a waitress
And she will smile every time

And this old porch is the palace walk-in
On the main street of texas
That's never seen the day
Of g and r and xs
With that '62 poster
That's almost faded down
And a screen without a picture
Since giant came to town"
