Koch is my number one guitar hero, here he is burning it up on stage with Bonamassa.

His technical ability at Rock, blues, Jazz, country, slide is just off the charts, there must be a thousand youtube videos of him playing a hundred different styles of music.

Glad someone gets it! He seems like a genuinely nice guy, as well. I've exchanged a few messages with him. It's crazy that somebody of that caliber makes his living doing gear demos and the occasional festival but he's said in the past that he's just not willing to spend the kind of time away from his family that being a touring musician requires.

I'd also like to go on record that I think GE Smith belongs in any conversation about greatest players. That guy is a monster as well.

One of my personal all time favorite rockers: Frank Marino.

Others I haven't seen mentioned:

Alan Holdsworth
Al Di Meola

You are confusing the guitar virtuoso with an annoying attention seeking regular on the OT.

It's Page, not Paige.

Unfortunately he's become somewhat of a cartoon character, but I saw Ted Nugent in the Amboy Duke days around '74 open for Aerosmith. A bunch of us at the show had never heard of him and he was all anyone could talk about after the show. Opened the show with "Hibernation".

I'm not really into "Who's Best" debates, but certainly Mark Knopfler has a seat at the "great" table as well.

I agree with this.

It's obviously all personal preference, but I think Trey is on a whole different level than anyone else. He has done things that I don't understand how they are possible.

Agree to disagree

Love the Nuge. Saw him at the Centroplex back in the day. Michael Schenker was also supposed to play that night, but he got arrested in New Orleans the day before. Still pissed about that.

Gonna throw Frusciante in the mix since "expressive playing" is being included. Some of the RHCP live shows with him are insane. You feel exactly what he's playing. Add in his solo shite and he deserves to be on the list IMO

This. My favorite guitar player. Imo second only to Gilmour in expressive play.
