C’mon, Saint, you edited your list to include two guys on my list. Making me look like a plagiarist or something.
BTW, I didn’t downvote you. Your list is solid!

RR was 23 yrs old when Blizzard of Ozz was released. One of my greatest concert memories is seeing Randy play live.
I can listen to Blizzard and Diary all day long
Sadly he left this earth way to soon at 25 yrs young
My favorite guitarist of all time. I will never forget hearing on the radio the news of his death. I was only 14 but it felt like I lost a good friend that day. Blizzard and Diary are two of my all time favorite albums.
That is so awesome that you got to see him. I wasn't able to see Ozzy until '83 with Brad Gillis as the guitarist.

George Lynch. Perfect combo of technical proficiency and tone

Looks really, really gay.
Turned out to be a good move

Vinnie Vincent should have been mentioned in this thread by now as well.

Nah, I posted and then went back to edit a few times, Nuno was always going to be on my list. The only guy I cribbed from your list was Adrian Vandenberg but I saw him live so I'm not sorry.

Same here. Think it was ‘83 or so in Baton Rouge with Ozzy, BOC, etc.

I din’t think anyone’s mentioned Jake E. Lee, he was up there with the top shredders.

The order may change slightly on a weekly, but my personal picks would be Bettencourt, Lynch, Sykes, Skolnick, EVH and Bratta in the list's front half, with "close second" nods going to Beach, Lee, Reid, Takasaki and LeTekro. And I'm embarrasingly leaving out horrid oversights like Dime, Malmsteen, Vai and Rhoads. If you can get by the stage look, Frigo from Enuff Z'nuff and Cody from Shotgun Messiah were horridly underrated guitarists.
But if I was transcribing this list akin to fantasy football, and there's a betting pool to be had when the smoke clears, I want Nuno in my band.

Vai
Satch gets almost no love in these discussions, TFS, and he taught both Vai AND Hemmett.
His song style was pretty poppy, but I would put Satch up against anyone, technically, except maybe Yngwie - and Yngwie had the musical sensibilities of a pile of rocks - all technique. Satch was light years ahead of Malmsteen on "musicality", IMHO.

Two fricking pages, and no one mentions Slash.
Really?

My first exposure to the guitar virtuosos in the '80s was buying Surfing With the Alien on cassette. Then Vai and Tony MacAlpine were close behind. I've seen all three of them at least twice each. The G3 tour I saw had those guys plus John Petrucci, Mike Keneally, Dave Weiner, Mike Portnoy, Virgil Donati, Jeff Campitelli, Dave LaRue, Stu Hamm and Billy Sheehan.

Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton from Queensryche deserve a mention. So does Frank Hannon from Tesla.

I don't know much about guitar players, but I thought Zach Wylde was good.
