Best Decade for Music?

I'm thinking the 80s. I've been listening to the 80s on 8 on Sirius and it just makes me happy. I'm not sure if it is the nostalgia or if they are just good songs. I'm usually a pretty hard core rock guy but I've been enjoying this shite out of this lighthearted stuff.

quote:agree. seems like many genres were thriving during that time. rap, metal, pop, new wave, country, alternative had large followings. you could on any top 40 station and hear a variety of styles within an hour.
I'm thinking the 80s
The live music scene was great and it didn't cost a fortune to go to an arena show. Taking huge stage shows out on the road was the thing. Not uncommon for a big bands to hit the Centroplex one night then Lake Charles Civic Center the next. Playing to full or nearly full houses or each show.

I agree with this.

No doubt, this is actually the period I had in mind.

I'd go with the 80s because under that high gloss pop sheen there was a beautifully diverse, and weird, underground scene that was laying the foundation for future pop culture. Also, MTV allowed some fundamentally bizarre artists to become briefly popular before they figured out the medium and put the clamps down on that. But in the early days, it was like an art school project run amok.
I just like that the pop music machinery almost totally broke down in the 80s, and all of these freaks and weirdos briefly rushed in to fill the gaps. It didn't last, but it was a blast. The pop star machinery these days is practically weaponized.

'70's wins as it is basically the cornerstone of classic rock.
I'm an '80's kid, but it was fluky one hit wonder stuff or Madonna/Cyndi Lauper/hair bands. Meh. The punk/new wave thing was OK, I guess...I loved me some Joe Jackson. When you start thinking about college rock/alt and REM, it's a solid case.

The 80's had some great music and especially videos, but if I put the 70's channel on sirius I rarely hear a song that I don't like.
80's channel on sirius, not so much.
