Is it just me, or does everyone else have a different answer every time this topic pops up? Anyways, I'm gonna go with Weezer's version of The Weight

1. Jeff Buckley-Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen);
2. Jimi Hendrix-All Along The Watchtower (Bob Dylan);
3. Shins-Baby Boomerang (T. Rex);
4. Al Green-I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry and Funny How Time Slips Away (Hank Williams and Willie Nelson respectively).
5. Killers-Shadowplay (Joy Division although the original is just as good).
6. Neil Young-Oh Lonesome Me (Don Gibson).

Some really shitty suggestions in this thread.

Did not realize that was a cover. Nilson is really under the radar.

Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower has to be near the top. I also really like Metallica's version of Turn the Page.

Martina McBride does a really nice medley of The First Cut Is the Deepest/Freefallin' in concert.

I never liked the Joni Mitchell version. I liked Richard Thompson's cover during the Joni Mitchell 2000 tribute much better. The thing is...I usually really like Joni Mitchell. I just didn't think it flowed as well on piano as it did in the later covers. JMO

Check out the Built to Spill version I linked above, I like it a lot better than the DMB cover. Heck better than the Neil Young original.
