you'd be wrong.
during the 80's, heavy metal, pop, new wave, & rap
were all thriving. you could turn on a top 40 radio station and hear something from any of those genres in a given hour.
there was good music to be found from all of those styles. and most of the musicians making it were actually talented.

Yep, amazing period of music; lot of experimentation, discovery, etc. The late 70's became the 'arena rock' commercial sell out years, and 80's 'hair bands' damaged rock, if you ask me. The 90's offered a little hope with grunge, but again, 1965-75 was the benchmark of great rock music. While there are exceptions, to be sure, but as an overall picture, nothing touches the great 1965-75 era...

I agree with Roxy Music. I don't really like anything after Siren, and I think that was 75. But I enjoyed Bowie's stuff all the way into the 80's with Scary Monsters and all of Eno's stuff until all he made was elevator music in the late 70's.

That chunk of years from about 77-80 was probably the biggest explosion of unique music ever made. I mean a whole genre of music started and died in like 2 years (punk) music was going so fast then.

72-82 it is then.

I can't tackle every band you listed, but the older bands you listed all peaked before 75. You will not find a bigger XTC fan than myself, but do you want to ask Andy Partridge what era influenced him?? And punk?? Would it have existed had there not been mid-60's garage punk or 1969-70 Stooges?? You listed a lot of bands I enjoyed, in fact, almost all of them, but it still can't compare to the 65-75 period, although I will even say 74 was the last great year of the 10 year period.
