Truer statements have not been made. LaR is one of the alltime great bands.

Also check out Tones on Tail. It's Daniel Ash of LaR other project that is almost as great. I love both of these bands

As for Bauhaus, I tend to agree they have some terrible songs. They also have some good ones though. I can't name one that I think is best, because I never got into them enough to find a best song.

I do find it hilarious that all the goth kids appropriated Bella Lugosi's Dead as their anthem when that song was written as a direct insult to them. Guess the goths weren't as smart as they thought they were, pompous pricks that they were.

Funny thing about Bauhuas is when they broke up, it created some even better music IMO with Peter Murphy's solo stuff and Love and Rockets. But I will go opposite of Degas. I slightly prefer Peter Murphy over L&R.

The only thing I'll agree about is the Dust Album. That's when he moved to Turkey and just went full... frick, what was that? take 7 years off, loose yourself in Turkish transcendental meditation? The follow up to that was unshattered and it still wasn't that good. However with Ninth, he went back to a Bauhaus sound I think it's great. Still not as great as his first few though.


I think by L&R self titled album, I couldn't take them anymore. I do have Lift though, it's so unlike their earlier stuff. But Seventh Dream, Express, Earth Sun Moon are great. I saw them at Tips with Janes Addiction and again at Saenger in '89. I think Daniel Ash's style of playing and sound is very unique and underrated.

She's In Parties is ok but not even in my top ten. All of the lp In the Flat Field is greatness and it depends on my mood as to what I think is my favorite. For now, I'll throw In the Flat Field out there. The drumming is tribal punk and the bass line is as always, dark evil.

God in an Alcove is another favorite. I had the guitar part semi down a few months ago and then quit playing it for some reason.

As for the Bauhaus spinoffs, I like Tones and Love and they have a lot of really good stuff and probably were more consistent than Bauhaus. But they never approached the greatness of Bauhaus when Bauhaus was at their peak. I never cared for Peter Murphy solo. Too poppy/dancie for me. I am passing on Peter when he plays here last tomorrow night....solo acoustic show and promising some Bauhaus stuff. But I don't want to sit through his other crap.

I can only think of Roll Call off Deep that has a Dancie feel. I guess the music can be a little more pop-ish sounding than L&R.

Sounded like he used drum machines which I always associate with shitty 80s dance music. I know a lot of bands in the 80s had that drum sound which I hated.
