It's what they called themselves before dropping the Chicago part. They were a different band by the end of the 70's.

Gotcha. Their two popular songs sound like completely different bands.

The king of this category: Roxy Music

They were huge in England but for some reason never broke in America. They were very similar in sound to David Bowie and fashion plate/matinee idol Bryan Ferry had his look stolen by Bowie -- yes, hippie Bowie saw the unsigned RM in a club and immediately aped Ferry's style.
KIRSTEN DUNST: I know you love music. Anything you’re listening to?

ALEXANDER SKARSGÅRD: I have a tendency to go down a rabbit hole for a period of time, and then I move on. I recently came out of a Roxy Music phase.

KIRSTEN DUNST: I love Roxy Music.

Tripping Daisy is the perfect answer for this. I Am an Elastic Firecracker is one of my top 90s albums.

Same. Loved TD. Saw them twice back in 95-96 when I was in college. Was totally bummed when their guitarist OD'd. Still have that album in the rotation today.

Fair to Midland is a band that should have taken over the hard rock scene.

A highly underrated band, and I agree.

What’s crazy is they are from Nola and have a bigger following on the west coast. Solid band

For a brief time in the 80's they were one of the biggest arena act going. Rik just felt the need to step aside when they were still going strong. In my circles, they were a pretty big deal.

They put on some killer concerts and like you, I'm still kind of dumbfounded how few remember them.
