I honestly like Motorhead's live version better than studio, and specific albums at that.

What band(s) do you prefer live?

Dave Matthews Band, with the studio album exception being "Before These Crowded Streets."

The Central Park Concert is one of my all time favorite albums

Insanely good record. Was listening to it the other day, the vibe they captured in Crush is so god damn sexy

Obviously, The Who 1969-73. Never got better than them.

Man Man. They are insanely fun love but I cannot stomach a whole album.

Yellowcard
Switchfoot
Jet
Shinedown

Other than Yellowcard, I rarely listen to these bands on my own, but live, they were absolutely fantastic.

A Band should be judged by its live sgows . Not manipulated studio stuff.

I heard an acoustic version of dare you to move by switch foot and it changed my whole opinion of them. Very dynamic

Not one of my favorite bands by no means, but mute math is ridiculously good live. Much more enjoyable.

Foals is another band that's on another level live

Flickerstick. I always enjoyed watching them live (before they disbanded several years ago) and I continue to prefer their two live albums over any of their studio material, although their final release ("Tarantula") has some great tunes on it...

Wilco is one of my favorite bands to see live, and I find them merely okay on record, with some exceptions.

Most bands are better live. Rappers are the exception, but you asked about bands. When going to see a band you get the visual effects as well as the audio effects. SCI is light years better live than in studio, IMO.

This. A band that isn't better live than in studio isn't worth my time usually.

Not sure why they get so much hate here. I never disliked them, but was never a fan until I saw them live. Their live show is amazing.
