No, that's not correct. I lived in Atlanta but my brother Bill never lived in Atlanta. I lived in Athens and ran my head shop, "The Looking Glass" with my brother Bill until the Athens police threatened our landlord that they would close down his bar by taking away his business license if he didn't stop renting to us. My brother and I had told our landlord when he first agreed to rent his commercial space to us if he ever had any problems with the Athens police because he was renting his commercial space to us that we close down The Looking Glass immediately. We closed The Looking Glass in August of 1969.
Our landlord was a kind wonderful man who treated us like we were his sons and he and his wife depended on his bar for their livelihood.
After we closed down The Looking Glass I moved to Buffalo, New York and worked for Fisher Price toys as a Systems Analyst but I couldn't take the winters so after suffering through one Buffalo winter I moved to Atlanta in October, 1970 where my friends were renting a house one block from Piedmont Park.

The problem is that in 1970 the Allman Brothers were no longer regularly playing in Piedmont Park.

I would have imagined Mike Ness to be an a-hole. Interesting.
I'd have thought the same thing before meeting him. Interacted with him several times over the years.
Another I left off my best list is all the guys in SlipKnot! Not remotely like their stage presence. The most cordial, respectful, and mannerful guys you'll meet. You'd think they were a church group!

I don't care to try to explain typing. In a word...arrogant.

It's weird because his entire career, including UHF, is deflating arrogance.

the story of the two guys meeting at a head shop in Athens is pretty well documented; our very own dawglovertoo appears to be the most interesting man in the world…personally involved in many of the most impactful musical happenings of the late 60s and early 70s.

Well, I know ever time I went to Piedmont Park after I moved to Atlanta I saw the Allman Brothers playing there. I saw them practicing in Piedmont Park so much that I got tired of hearing "tied to the whipping post" and "one more silver dollar".

They also appeared at Piedmont Park in September 1970 and later

I also appeared in the film "Festival Express".
Around 10 minutes into the documentary I was the second guy who jumped off of the top of the wall and ran past the cameraman. Then I'm in the next scene being escorted out of the stadium by security. LOL

Yes we know. You told us that story already. Like I said you are our very own musical Forrest Gump
I assume you attended the Montreal show when you were living in buffalo?

No I attended the Toronto concert which on June 27 and June 28, 1970 and was the first concert on the Festival Express tour.
According to Wikipedia, "The Montreal stop for the 1970 Festival Express tour was scheduled for June 24, 1970 (St. Jean-Baptiste Day) at the Autostade. However, the show was cancelled by the city, specifically by Mayor Jean Drapeau, a few weeks prior to the event due to fears of unruly crowds."
I posted on the Movie/TV board not on this board about me being in the Festival Express documentary. That's why I mentioned it here. Since you don't want me to repeat it here I won't tell the story about meeting Jerry Garcia on the sidewalk after I got "escorted" out of the stadium when he was playing his guitar by himself. I walked up to him and stood right next to him while he played a few songs just for me until the rest of the members of The Grateful Dead showed up and more people gathered to listen to them. Finally so many people gathered that Jerry told them to move into the park because the band was going to play some more music in the park for free.

I thought you said you "won't tell the story about meeting Jerry Garcia on the sidewalk"? Looks like you just told it.

From listening to President Trump I learned how to not tell a story by telling the story. LOL

Posted on 4/21/26 at 7:43 pm to hogcard1964

Posted on 4/22/26 at 8:59 am to hogcard1964
