Just listened through for the first time.. There are a few solid songs, but unfortunately this is their worst album. They ruined a potentially great song in "Tell the Truth" with the talking part.

It used to be a man’s world, but we didn’t treat it right
It used to be a man’s world, but all we did was fight
I’m glad it’s finally in the hands of the women and the girls
I can’t wait to see what they do with what’s left of the world
Ladies, I’m sorry, but we couldn’t seem to learn
How to live in peace, so Rome had to burn
And we cared about clean air, but there was money to be made
And breathing is nice but it don’t compare to getting paid
It used to be a man’s world, but we didn’t treat it right
It used to be a man’s world, but all we did was fight
I’m glad it’s finally in the hands of the women and the girls
I can’t wait to see what they do with what’s left of the world
Please I beg your pardon, but we got a bit confused
Some of our brothers thought our sisters were born for getting used
Then we made the assumption that’s how it should be done
And then tried to excuse ourselves in the name of fun
Don’t get me wrong, hope ain’t fully gone
Scores of decent men built the rode I’m standing on
But a lot of it has crumbled through prideful mistakes
And ashes cover much of what the flood he didn’t take
I know that we are giving you a lot to straighten out,
the silver lining broke away from the thunder cloud
And it took us a few thousand years to make a mess so fine
I bet y’all sort it out in less than half the time
It used to be a man’s world, excess in the extreme
It used to be a man’s world, but we ran out of steam
We couldn’t seem to reach the grace that’s born in every girl
Still I hope that I can lend a hand in this new woman’s world
Let me know if I can help out, in this new woman’s world

this is most beta shite i've ever heard, even for them

I think I’m going to treat this one like I do the Nashville sound… Give them a Mulligan and pretend it didn’t happen

Man anyone saying this a great album is lying to themselves. Once again the music industry destroys a great band. It imposed its liberal bs into their art and lyrics.

Eh...i don't think they're under anyone's thumb....They're legit artists and I genuinely think its a reflection of the season of life for them.

Can't wait till this season passes for everyone...at least American Aquarium's version rocked somewhat...

Their dad is a musician too. I was at a brewery in Asheville a few years back and he was at an Avett Bros fan meetup before a concert that was at the brewery. I swear I saw him kiss a fan girl on the back of the head (Biden style) during a group photo. Really creepy.

Most bands for the last 50 years have been pushing progressive political stuff, that’s not the problem to me. The problem with this album is that the lyrics are not creative, the sound isn’t particularly good, and it seems like an even further step away from what made the Avett Brothers great in the first place; a kind of raw rock/folk groupwith interesting lyrics and a refreshing, underproduced, non-mainstream sound. I think they were definitely going for an in-your-face social commentary album, but the lyrics are too on the nose and direct, which is out of character for Avett Brothers. Reminds me of something a young high schooler might write these days.

I’ll be honest, I’m usually pretty open minded with political albums but New Woman’s World made me gag a little on first listen.

Why do they feel the need to talk in the middle of songs? I do not like that shite at all.

I’m so bummed. I made it about four songs in and switched it off and listened to some podcasts.
I think you nailed it. There just isn’t anything creative here. It’s like when a kid writes a story. Jim did this. Sally did that. The car was red....
More than political, it’s just boring.

Listened to it two times all the way through now. Hands down, their worst album. By a mile. Its a truly bad album.

True Sadness is an underrated album and had multiple songs that would have flowed smoothly with their best albums. Made even better if you watch the HBO doc on the making of it. Every song on this album would stick out like a sore thumb if you put it on Emotionalism or I and Love and You.

They are one of the best live bands on the planet. Just amazing. I dont think i'd want to see them live if this was the majority of the concert.

Listened to it three times all the way through now (trying to convince myself it isnt THAT bad). Yep, by far their worst album. There is one song worth putting on a playlist.

It’s gotten poor reviews too, thankfully. This is how you keep people from releasing pandering fodder again in the future. See ghostbusters 2016 for exhibit B.
