The artist compensation issue would be a factor.
I'll buy an LP of an album if I really like the album, especially if the album contains classical music. I often end up buying a digital copy for listening on the road or if I'm at one of the farms (only one decent sound system).
I don't stream because I'm generally wary of electronic intrusions. I have one good download site that I use to download music.

If I’m sitting down to really really listen to music critically, then it’s always a record.
But, do you worry about wear? I have a nice turntable and stylus, but I listen to some music (Led Zeppelin) a lot. Even with good equipment, isn't it better to ease back to avoid wear? (that is a question, not a rhetorical question)
I recognize this is less of an issue as records become more available.
Many of my records came from Dad. I'm glad he took care of them. My uncle had some LP's but it seems like he played them like some 50's kid (putting weight on the stylus).

I have approximately 1200 each of albums and cd's. The cd's are ripped to FLAC and streamed from an SSD drive or from the NAS using foobar2000. I also stream using a Node 2i; Qobuz, Radio Paradise and others that I occasionally trial, currently Amazon Music. When out in the yard working to exercising (walking) I stream Qobuz or SiriusXM (have SiriusXM in the car) on my phone.
Most of my listening is by streaming now a days, strictly convenience and breath of catalog.
Occasionally, when I'm not doing anything else I'll pull out some albums, sit down and listen.

Converting all the LPs to digital in my library sounds like a massive undertaking that isn’t worth the squeeze
I haven't done that yet. But I've acquired the means to do so and plan to at some point. I don't have a huge vinyl collection but I still wouldn't plan to do all of it, b/c a lot of it is old rock stuff from the 80s that I didn't always take care of well and don't think will necessarily benefit much from having the LP version vs CD or streaming. I was a Columbia House member, lol, so some of those cheapass pressings they were known for are in my collection. I may be wrong about some of that, but interest / taste is also a detraction in some cases.
For anyone curious, I picked up a used Tascam DA-3000 digital recorder that has the option of recording up to 192/24 PCM or 2x DSD.

No, not really. I don’t have any particular record that I just repeatedly play over and over. At this point, I’m constantly blowing money on records, so I always have something new to play. I think there’s only a couple of records I’ve listened to more than once over the past year or so.

Been waiting 3 months for this. Someone may have been looking out for me today b/c I finally decided to really check the status, actually reached out to Sean on Facebook. Told me it had shipped... found an email from last week that I had missed with USPS tracking. By 9:00 it wasn't here so I kind of gave up, but 2 hours later checked and it said "left AT mailbox" at 9:15. WTF?! I thought, this is too big for my mailbox so that's not good. So I walk out - the package was literally left up in a bush. If I hadn't remembered to check and find the tracking today it would likely have been snagged by some rando.
But I spun it... all's well that ends well.

I'm looking to pick up a secondary turntable just to play older beaten up vinyls. Less than $400.00.
Looking for a fully auto belt driven unit. Something that'll take a mc or mm cartridge.
Any suggestions anyone?

slightly over your $400 budget but DENON DP-300F

Was just going to suggest the Denon DP-300F. It's a highly regarded classic, has built in phono preamp too which might help justify exceeding the budget.
Audio Technica AT-LP3XBT at about $100 less is also a good option.

FYI - the DP300F is $359 at Amazon.

I was actually considering this one ...the Denon

Dad had some of those among his records (that I now have). At first, I thought I was having some personal issue since the fidelity and quality did not seem right.

The more recent LPs I've picked up have mostly been those newer, high quality audiophile oriented heavyweight pressings. I pick up one of those and compare to some of the flimsy old vinyl, it's like night and day.
Speaking of... my other delivery yesterday!

The folks here are usually pretty good if you have specific questions.
If you have a local Hifi shop they are sometimes not only eager to help (i.e. sell you something) but actually helpful. But it can be dicey.
Crutchfield advisors are usually pretty helpful, depends a bit on how in depth you need to get.
I love talking this stuff with friends, so if you want, shoot me an email at this username on Yahoo.

Hey, is there a difference in the Denon DP300F that's being sold at Amazon for 359.00 and the one at the other place for over 400.00?
These are the exact same models, correct?

The one I posted has an upgraded ortofon red stylus.
Posted on 1/31/23 at 4:33 pm to 45acp
Oh, I see.
I had that same red Ortofon on a Pro Ject I purchased about 4 years ago.
