I have a bunch of music matters reissues, but none of the time poet series yet, however my friend has a bunch of both and says it’s very comparable quality all around at a much more reasonable price. There just haven’t been any releases yet that I absolutely need, and I’ve been “trying” to tone down my vinyl purchases since I have a bunch I haven’t even listened to yet.

However, I think I saw sometime this year, maybe February, they are going to be releasing Chet Baker Sings, and I have been waiting on a solid reissue of that title for a long time. Can’t wait!

ETA: Snap! Pre-order is already up. Release is Feb. 28.

I've got the original of the Starker/Dvorak LP. Nice. Mine's in pretty good shape.

From that era I'm usually partial to RCA recordings, but that one's good stuff.

quote:

I got a sixty-nine Chevy with a 396
Fuelie heads and a Hurst on the floor
She's waiting tonight down in the parking lot
Outside the Seven-Eleven store
Me and my partner Sonny built her straight out of scratch
And he rides with me from town to town
We only run for the money, got no strings attached
We shut 'em up and then we shut 'em down

Tonight, tonight the strip's just right
I want to blow 'em off in my first heat
Summer's here and the time is right
For racin' in the street

We take all the action we can meet
And we cover all the northeast state
When the strip shuts down we run 'em in the street
From the fire roads to the interstate
Some guys they just give up living
And start dying little by little, piece by piece,
Some guys come home from work and wash up,
And go racin' in the street

Tonight, tonight the strip's just right
I want to blow 'em all out of their seats
Calling out around the world, we're going racin' in the street

I met her on the strip three years ago
In a Camaro with this dude from L.A.
I blew that Camaro off my back,
And drove that little girl away,
But now there's wrinkles around my baby's eyes
And she cries herself to sleep at night
When I come home the house is dark
She sighs, "baby did you make it all right, "
She sits on the porch of her daddy's house
But all her pretty dreams are torn,
She stares off alone into the night
With the eyes of one who hates for just being born
For all the shut down strangers and hot rod angels,
Rumbling through this promised land
Tonight my baby and me, we're gonna ride to the sea
And wash these sins off our hands

Tonight, tonight the highway's bright
Out of our way, mister, you best keep
'Cause summer's here and the time is right
For racin' in the street

I love the piano line in Racing In The Street. It gets to my core.

I’ve been meaning to start a thread on artists you’ve come to appreciate as you get older, and for me Springsteen is definitely one of them. Along with Fleetwood Mac. I viewed both as pretty cheesy growing up, but I’ve come around on them and really enjoy the music. When I heard Nebraska by Springsteen that was the first time I really started to dive into his music beyond just the stuff you grew up hearing on the radio.

The light went on for me my freshman year of college ('89)... I thought of him as over produced crappy pop music... and then I ended up listening to The River drinking cheap beer at some dude's apartment and I was hooked... He also turned me onto Tom Waits, Gram Parson's and quite a few others... At the time my record collection was Sonic Youth, Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr. etc...

I picked up the Andrew Hill - Black Fire Tone Poet reissue. Sounds incredible. Such a great recording. I'll probably pick up the Mobley, but the December 2020 reissues, Mr. PC and Scofield, are the ones I'm waiting for, good stuff.

On tonight:

I forgot I even purchased this album. First Beatles album I’ve owned. Not because I don’t like them, but because every time I try to research the best pressings to buy I get overwhelmed by all the different versions and info, and eventually give up. anyway I saw this anniversary reissue of abbey road was recently remastered and pressed at qrp, and it was cheap so I said why not. Sounds great so far tbh.

You have to have the amp to drive them...they drink power just like their floor standing big brothers. I have always preferred closed back headphones. The planars are just too giant, feel funny, and look even funnier on your head...but they will give you a big sound stage like the big ones do.
