Finally received this Chet box set just in time for Christmas!

This album is easily in my top 5 for jazz albums! Mastering sounds great. Had an old OJC copy that was in decent shape, but this new reissue from craft recordings and Kevin Gray is vv nice!

Just found an old Bing Crosby Christmas record in a garage sale box set I got years back. I think it’s an original from the 40s or so. Definitely been played a lot, it was in another Christmas symphony box set and didn’t have a cover. There’s just something about Bing on the turntable at Christmas...

Got a turn table for Christmas, I can't wait to get it setup after everyone leaves so I can join in on this thread. I've been reading through it for a while.
My wife also got me 2 albums with it, Dark Side of the Moon and Bob Marley Legends.
I also have my dads vinyl that I inherited I'll be going through.

I’ve been a little absent from this thread for a while.

I started a renovation/repair project in the house that caused a domino effect. After years of getting frustrated with sub-par house repairs and contracting work (not the audio room however—that was done right—because I was heavily involved in that on a daily basis), I decided to start doing all the home repairs myself.

I am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to just about anything regarding construction of a house, but about 15 years ago I decided to start letting the “pros” do the manual work. You hit a point in life when the Opportunity Cost factor kicks in, and it just wasn’t worth the time and headache to do the work myself.

Not anymore...a few back-to-back bad contracting instances this fall was the catalyst I needed. Over the last 8 weeks I have spent the equivalent of a new McIntosh amplifier on revamping my tool arsenal (both power and mechanical). Because of this, my tool room/work room had to be redone to accommodate all the new gear. This required me to empty and gut the existing tool room and start over, beginning with peg-boarding the entire room.

It snowballed, as I am the type that says, “well, if I’m in it this far, I might as well just go ahead and do ____”, so the project grows.

I am hoping to be done by March, as the initial project that spurred the tool room project still needs to be done.

I haven’t even unboxed the Xillica digital signal processor I bought 3 months ago...and that piece should make a HUGE difference in the performance of the big rig.

I plan on adding to this thread a detailed report of the installation of that piece as it is not plug and play...maybe I will get to it by April.

I haven’t been posting “what’s playing now” as the audio room is piled high with all the contents of the tool room while I make the changes to it—and it is a total mess!

Anyway, for those looking for advice on start up rigs, I will try to get to your posts, but it just may take a few days until these house projects are complete.

ETA...I will, however, reply quickly to a thread if involves trolling on the The SECRant...

Roll Tide!

I feel that I need to clarify my upvote was for the Willie record, and not the geaux tigers.

My wife got this shite for Xmas

It’s a audio-technica AT-LP60XBT model turn table with Bluetooth capabilities.

The Bluetooth speaker is a Marshall Stanmore cream model.

I can get them to pair, but when I play the record nothing comes out. Keep in mind I’m a millennial, but the record is spinning & I think I did everything right setting it up.

The ap for the Marshall speaker shows they are paired. At first I thought it just meant it wa L’s connected to my phone, but The speaker beeps when the pairing is done. It seems they are in sync

The song on the bottom of the ap is the last song that my wife played thru her Apple Music. It’s not the record I’m trying to play.

This is the set up for a visual. I realize this isn’t a traditional setup but this is what she asked for. Anyone have any tips?

Not sure. looks like you have the correct source selected (Bluetooth), and you have a solid blue light on the turntable indicating a paired connection. Should be working.

I’m assuming you’ve streamed from your phone, or another source, to the Marshall and it plays music? The only other thing I can think of would be to disconnect the Bluetooth connection and re-pair it.

Try completely disconnecting the bluetooth (“forget this device”) connection with any phone or source that already paired to it, and then try pairing the turntable again. I’m wondering if maybe your wife’s phone is still connected to the Marshall speaker and blocking the turntable signal somehow.

Looking online at the Marshall site, is the Bluetooth LED lit on the top of the speaker? Turntable should have blue LED lit. Not sure what use the phone app would serve if you are playing the turntable. Could it be confusing the connection? Have you tried playing something from your phone to see if you get sound.

Yea the speaker plays thru the phone apps properly

The record player wouldn’t connect to the speaker until I opened the app. It would just buffer endlessly. That’s the only reason I screen shorted the app.

And yes the turntable lights up blue.

The speaker beeps when the app shows they’ve been paired.

Phillip, I had my wife turn off her Bluetooth completely. But I’m going to try and just re pair it again

Marco,

How do you like Tidal? I have Deezer right now but Qobuz is now available in the states. I’m thinking about checking it out.

Amazon has a hifi for 12.99.

I’m curious how many in here can really tell a difference in 320 kbps vs FLAC. I think a good bit will be surprised.

I really liked tidal, but dropped it and signed up for Qobuz when they offered the $150/yr deal. I think I’d still give the edge to tidal a bit, because I’ve run in to some instances where certain titles weren’t available, but that’s pretty much just on obscure indie bands I listen to. Other than those rare instances I’ve really enjoyed Qobuz.

Also, and I don’t know if it’s true or not, but it seems like Qobuz has more albums in HiRes than tidal.

Wife and I have twins arriving in the next week or two and we plan on setting them up near our turntable and spending our days listening through all the albums again. Need to get the bambinos accustomed to good music early.
