Keep the turntable you have and maybe look at these... LINK
This is a killer speaker.
I’ll look for other stuff when I get home later this evening.

those things look like beasts! unfortunately i'm going to have to get a turntable, because i'm starting to have issues with the dual. I've been looking at clearaudio and vpi specifically.

Any experience with Sonus Faber? I don't think i've heard of them before, but I have a friend who recommended the Venere 2.5 or 3.0. Reviews online are really solid, but I noticed that this is one of their first models, or maybe only model, that is built in china instead of italy, don't know if that's something to be afraid of. Also, i think they are rated at 6ohms, I don't think the ma5200 would have issues with it, but not sure.
I do love the actual design style of them, especially in walnut, which isn't an insignificant factor considering the size. Just thought i'd check and get your thoughts. Unfortunately I wouldn't have an opportunity to listen to them first.

I’ll try to get you a little more in depth at the end of the weekend.
For now—go with as much or as large a woofer as you can. Spend the bulk of money on a speaker—that is where the sound is converted to waves.
I say get a ProJect Debut to tie you over for a year or so until you get another $2k for a table...spend the bulk of your money now on a formidable speaker.

Hey Shark, do I remember you living in S'port at one time or another - seems like I remember that from early posts on this thread. I'm a latecomer to this thread (June of last year).

Just curious - just looking for folks here with similar interests...but if you have some ideas I don't know of, sure. I hit up Rick's from time to time as well as Campus Collectibles (I think it is now called the Antique Shop) and Day Old Blues. I know the Best Buy and B&N has a small vinyl section as well. My nephew told me Ki Mexico has a "Vinyl Night" on Wednesdays, but not exactly sure what that's about. I live in South Highlands, so that is already a place we frequent, so I am gonna check it out at some point in time. Do you still live here, or moved away?

I’m in Dallas now but get back all the time. My cousin used to work at campus collectibles selling the records, it’s fun to go in there. I see records from Stan the mans record shop and Sooto records all the time at half priced books in Dallas. I’ve never been to vinyl night at ki Mexico but that sounds fun. I’m actually coming this weekend for a family function. Always try to go to great raft when I’m in town and gonna go to bergerons for some crawfish

Phil,
I ownded the 2.5’s for a little while before switching to Focal Aria’s. What kind of music do you usually listen to? Are you planning to add a sub?

I listen to pretty much everything except rap and new country. Primarily modern classical/ambient artists, classical, old soul, indie rock, punk, some jazz, some classic rock, oldies. I dont plan on adding a sub currently.
I think the reviews I had read on the 2.5’s said it was a speaker that played well with classical music and jazz. Did you find the speaker being manufactured in China an issue? They look gorgeous online. I’ve never heard Sonus Faber before so I’m not sure what that “house sound” is like, and if the Venere is a solid product from them. Reason for switching to th focals? how would you compare the two?
