I had to change gears...my wife yelled from the other side of the house "Good God, enough with the Rush already!"

I still had 5 more to go!

I'm looking to add bookshelf speakers to my turntable setup.

I am looking at either the AudioEngine A5 (no-sub) or the Klipsch R-15 with Sub.

Anyone have a setup like this and can give me any guidance?

I had the AudioEngine A5’s in my first vinyl set-up and were happy with them. I’ve since upgraded, and moved the A5’s to my son’s bedroom. I still use and enjoy them from time to time. I think they sound great for the money and, being powered, are pretty convenient also.

Can’t speak to the A5s, but I have the R-15s and wouldn’t recommend them. They sound fine in the mids and upper range, or at a lower volume, but if you’re listening at a high volume, music with a lot of bass will sound crappy.

I have a fourteen-year-old pair of Sony 3-way bookshelf speakers that sound much better.

I know they aren’t powered, but have you thought about the ELAC bookshelf speakers? A buddy picked up some of the 5s and he likes them. They also have really good reviews.

Hey Marco,

When i turn on the amp the two Power Guard lights turn on for a few seconds, the volume % drops to 0 and then climbs back to whatever % it was previously set at, and then the Power Guard lights go off and the amp is operational...all of this happens in a few seconds.

I feel like this is normal, and it's the amp just checking itself upon powering up, but i just wanted to check and make sure because i didn't seem to notice the lights coming on the first few days. They could have been, and i just didn't catch it though.

Oh, and that's the only time the lights come on, just on startup.

Yes that's normal. Keeps the speakers from popping as everything powers up, limits power surges.

tGoat.

That just reminded me of a great little movie I haven’t seen in a while called Northern Soul (on Netflix now). Highly recommend. Examines the origins of the Northern Soul movement in England. Which is loosely described as follows...

quote:

Northern soul is a music and dance movement that emerged in Northern England in the late 1960s from the British mod scene, based on a particular style of black American soul music, especially in the mid-1960s, with a heavy beat and fast tempo

That is normal for all modern McIntosh integrated and pre amps.

The only DMM I don't have...I messed up the order and left it off. I guess I will have to put it on the next order.

No doubt. I'll have check it out. Just like the kids were doing at this show. Some of the audience reaction in this recording crack me up.

Good Lawd, I'm working up a lather.

It sounds great...
I have ‘em through “Power Windows”- I need to order some of the later ones. I remember how good “Roll the Bones” sounded when I borrowed it from you.
