Was looking at the LS50's on account of the glowing reviews that they get. Also, I'm in a standalone home for now, but I'm 50/50 on being back in a condo within 5 years, in which case I would be turning down the low end. Reviews I've seen for the LS50's also generally agree that they're acceptable without a separate sub. So the plan was to get the LS50's, then if I settle down permanently in a house, buy a sub.
But if you have any floor standing recs, I'd be happy to hear them. Especially if you have good ones for cheaper than $1200/pair.

I will always steer someone into a full size floorstanding speaker.
It's not the "loudness" of the bass, but the amount and depth of the bass. Every time I "upgraded" speakers over the years, I always went to the next physical size up the line...and every time, within the first minute of getting them installed, had that "holy crap--the low end!!" sensation. The difference was not subtle either--it was immediately noticeable--more so than any other single change I could make in the entire audio rig.
Also, keep in mind that even if you move to a condo, you can still easily use a floorstanding speaker without creating dissent among your neighbors. The low end it should put out will be more of an enveloping, smooth bass as opposed to a loud thumping.
A word on subs...subwoofers are fairly difficult to blend seamlessly with a pair of bookshelf speakers--especially if you have never done it before. I can say from 30 years experience that 95% of subwoofers out there are not mated/blended correctly. There are time domain issues, phase issues, and speed issues to name a few. That is why many subs sound "muddy" or seem to lag behind the music. There is a boatload of software out now to help with getting a sub to blend better nowadays, but you need the tools and know-how to do it right.
There is a saying in hi-end audio..."if you can hear the sub, it's not set up correctly". How many times have you gone over to a friends place and heard the sub "thumping" over in the corner?--happens all the time. Also, people tend to shove the sub in a corner to hide it from view...the problem with this is that a corner placement will actually almost double the output of the low frequency waves, making the sub sound boomy.
When a speaker is designed to be a single speaker or cabinet, the low-end drivers and cabinets are tuned to create a cohesive and linear crossover and phase with the mids and highs.
The LS50 is a good speaker, but you just won't get all the low end you can extract with a larger box...its physics.
A 4 cylinder motor in your car will get you around town just fine, but a 6 or 8 cylinder will do it with oomph and excitement--makes you WANT to drive!
I will try to find a floorstander or two in the next few days that will fit your budget.

Since it is raining and I am bored today, I finally hooked up a spare Oppo DVD player I had laying around to the smaller tube system in the guest bedroom, and I have it jamming in here right now!!...I had to turn it down after a few minutes--my ears were hurting (and I like it loud too!).
These little refurbished 14 watt, 59 year old EICO tube amps drive the hell out of these Zu Audio speakers (they are very efficient speakers though). They also put out an incredible amount of bass--I actually turned the bass knob on the amps back a couple notches as it was booming in here.
The TV is a Samsung 47" plasma that I picked up new at HH Gregg a couple years ago for $279...it has a better picture than the newer 65"4K LED I have outside--good plasma panels are, IMHO, still hard to beat.
Phish--"The Clifford Ball"...7 DVD box from 8/16/96 & 8/17/96...JEMP Records, released in 2009.
I suppose I will be in here all afternoon watching concert DVDs---this little rig sounds fantastic!

Looks like you are the go to guy in this thread. I'm looking to do a nice setup to start enjoying some records, totally new to this so don't know much about the costs. I would like to remain in 2500-3500 range if possible. If that can't get me a good enough sound I can go higher. Please let me know what you would advise for first setup in that range.

You will need a power amp and a pre amp (or an integrated amp which combines the 2). You will need a turntable (and a phono pre amp if the line-stage pre amp does not include one--but many now do have them), a pair of speakers, and interconnects and speaker cables.
I would recommend a line-stage pre amp (or integrated) with a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) built in so you can stream computer audio files. Most new pre-amps will have this.
What is your listening taste?
How big is the room?
Can you fit a full size floorstanding speaker?
Where will you put it?

I have a few system builds that can get you around $4000, but let me know more and I can get you something that mates to your style.
Once you reply back, I will suggest a few options.

Also...I am heading out to the L.A. Audio Show in Los Angeles next weekend. I am sure there will be a ton of new and cool offerings from hundreds of manufacturers. If you can wait a week, I can look and listen to a few things and get back with you.
Glad to hear you are taking the plunge!!...it's a fun ride!

Awesome! Thanks for the kind welcoming. The room is approximately 25x20 with 12 inch ceilings, yes would definitely be able to handle floor speakers in the room. My main listening tastes are Chris stapleton, sturgill simpson, Cody Jinks, Jason isbell, and older country like Waylon and Cash. I'm not in a really big hurry, just something I was hoping to acquire in the next 1-2 months. I can definitely wait and let you see what is new out at the Audio show. We can go from there. Thanks again!

So, I'm in the process of buying a turntable to start my setup. Right now I'm looking to spend around $400 on one. I figured I'd ask here instead of starting a new thread. So far, I'm looking at the following:
u-turn Orbit Custom - Acrylic platter and Ortofan 2M Red cartridge. I could also go with a Grado Black1 cartridge for $20 less, but it appears the 2M Red is worth that.
Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB - This table has a lot of really good reviews. Also, it has a built-in preamp which could be a useful option. It comes with an AT95E cartridge. The speed control is supposedly superb on this one. The RCAs are actually built into it, though. So 42 inches is all you get without adding extensions.
Marantz TT42P - Another option with built-in pre-amp. It's also fully automatic. I see places that list its wow and flutter at 0.07%, but I'm questioning how accurate that is. That seems really low for a $300 turntable.
TEAC TN-300 - This is a sexy option. This one and the u-Turn are the classiest looking options. I also see it makes a lot of Best of lists.
The u-turn is customizable, so upgrading the cartridge is not as big a cost as buying an entirely separate cartridge.

For a short answer--the Project.
I'll go into a more complete explanation of why when I get back into town on Monday and not on a phone.
