There really should not be any "rubbing" whatsoever with regards to the platter. Even if there is little to no lubricant on the bearing. If there is little to no lubricant, the platter should still not rub, although it won't spin effortlessly as it would with a greased bearing. If there is a rubbing or "bump" with each revolution, there is something not right.
Is this happening with the platter/bearing or with the actual motor driving the platter? The mother wil "cog" if it is not spinning properly, while the platter will "drag" a bit if it is not spinning freely.
Either way, it should be effortless on both ends.

It's the motor. Platter is fine. They have the part that (guess fly wheel) the belt attaches to. That's where the noise is coming from. Like I said, the noise stopped, but when I turn the "fly wheel" it is rough. I assume that should be as smooth as a babies arse when I turn it.
It's this piece in the pic.

The "cogging" you are feeling when the motor is off and you turn it by hand is normal. If it cogs when running...well that's different.
Those cogs you feel are the "poles" of the armature passing by the numerous magnets inside the motor...that's how an electric motor works.

BTW...
I never turn my motor off--the platter turns 24/7/365--it is designed to run. It is also a very low torque motor (not powerful, but designed to be stable at speed) and uses very little power.
As of now, the platter has approximately 105,120,000 revolutions in 6 years (33.33 rpm)
As of now, the motor has approximately 946,080,000 revolutions in 6 years (300 rpm)

Also--the black piece on top of the motor spindle that the belt wraps around is called a pulley. A flywheel is what you see on my table, which sits between the pulley and the platter on the upper models.
As you go up the VPI line, the pulleys are machined to extreme tolerances for greater speed accuracy.

Alright... that makes sense. Wasn't exactly sure what you meant with the cogging reference.
Do I just shoot white grease down the hole in the top of the pulley? Or should I kust let it run for a couple days.
And holy shite, would've never thought about letting that thing run continuously for that long.

Great record! I love "Don't Walk Away" but it gets stuck in my head for days every time I listen to it. The melody goes as far as you think it can and then takes a couple of steps further. "I'm Alive" is another favorite.
I've read Jeff Lynne was asked to write the soundtrack for Fame but turned it down. I wonder what that would have been like.

Was telling Marco this earlier... he already knows this, but for the newbies. The vibrapods work.
Got directtv put in and I could hear a humming, it was the directtv box on the shelf. Took my vibrapods and stuck them on the feet of the direct box and no more noise.... definitely head the advice and put them on your tables!

I need to get this buckingham nicks album for my wife for our anniversary. There don't seem to be a whole lot of places that have it. Any ideas on a particular dealer/site?

Or just call Euclid or Capitol City Records in BR and ask if they have it.

Still floored by the quality of this show. Close to perfection.
