Holy shite is this is a joke? What am I missing here? I seriously thought it was a SNL bit

Is this one of those bands like the alabama shakes and kings of Leon that I have to like because the cool kids like them?

Maybe they just aren't for you? Doesn't mean that they suck, they are obviously very talented musicians. Doesn't mean that you or their fans have terrible tastes. Different people like different things. And the argument that people like them to seem cool is so silly, I won't even touch it.

shakes are fun, KoL lost it's mojo, and arcade fire has gone into a very strange direction.

I don't think that's close to the truth...

KoL has been pretty mediocre for several years now...

HOWEVER, I do relate to you in the way of I hear certain bands from pitchfork that leave me scratching my head wondering how people could like it

I said pretty much this exact thing in the last Arcade Fire thread. Whether or not they are your cup of tea, you can't deny how talented they are.

I am a huge AF fan, but maybe I'm biased

KOL? They haven't been "cool" in a decade.

I'm not a big fan of Arcade Fire, but they definitely don't suck.

Terrible post and thread

The fact that you compared them to Kings of Leon made me chuckle though

They lead me to finding new interesting bands occasionally

It's 98% pretentious drivel, but I do find some good music from it every now then

agreed

their ratio of finding good/bad is terrible

they are tastemakers and a lot of people follow their lead

I like Arcade Fire. I've seen them live and they put on a pretty good show at a shitty venue.

while your post sucks, i agree with this. the whole performance was incredibly cheesy. i loved Funeral, but this band has gone downhill ever since.

with that said, i also didnt care for the song, but it did kinda get stuck in my head.

I thought it was awesome. Wasn't a huge fan of the song when I heard it but it has grown on me.

Wayne Coyne on Arcade Fire:

quote:

“I’m a fan of them on one level, but on another level I get really tired of their pompousness … We’ve played some shows with them and they really treat people like shite. Whenever I’ve been around them, I’ve found that they not only treated their crew like shite, they treated the audience like shite. They treated everybody in their vicinity like shite. I thought, ‘Who do they think they are?’ I don’t know why people put up with it. I wouldn’t put up with it. I don’t care if it’s Arcade Fire or Brian Eno. If either of them walked into a room and treated people like shite I’d be like, ‘frick you, get outta here.’ … People treat Arcade Fire like they’re the greatest thing ever and they get away with it. Those sort of opinions change my view of their music. They have good tunes, but they’re pricks, so frick ‘em. Who does Arcade Fire think they are? I’ve been around groups. I’ve been around the Edge from U2 and he’s the fricking sweetest guy ever. I was around Justin Timberlake when he was young and he was just a normal, nice, kind person. Anyone can be polite and kind and people who have the privilege and money and attention should understand that. If they don’t, then frick ‘em.”
