Musical depth? Lmao. Depth has nothing to do the the terrible sounding vibrations that Arcade Fire's band produces.
Ya, like I said, you just dont get it. Dont get down on yourself.

I just don't get why someone would think Arcade Fire is "terrible"
They could just not like it, sure, I get it, everyone has different tastes. But terrible?
Their sound is far too immediate and well-done to be "terrible. That's just a thing a snob that has heard two songs by a band and makes a sweeping generalization about them would say.

That's how I am. It's not like they aren't talented but I don't see how they could be "The Beatles of our generation". This is the only place I hear anyone talk about them.

The only Arcade Fire song I like is "No Cars Go"

I'm not comparing them the Beatles, the Beatles are just an example of what I meant by them being the best and most influential, and also pretty popular that will have a lasting affect on music and will be well remembered for a long time for being one of the best bands of this era
"The Beatles of our generation"
I'm not saying Arcade Fire = The Beatles. That's silly.

That's not even one of their better songs imo

I tried to listen to the album with Neighborhood and Tunnels when it came out and was so bored I literally threw the disc out the window

No I understand exactly what you meant.

Well who is it then, iyo? From about 2005-present

You should try again though. They're good.

If I had to choose who's the biggest band from that era it would probably be RHCP. Not a big fan of them now but they are way bigger and influential than Arcade Fire. Not knocking AF but that's just my opinion.

If someone put a gun to my head, I may be able to spit out 1 or 2 names of Arcade Fire songs. And I listen to a ton of music from a variety of genres. I'm pretty sure the majority of my friends, who go to a lot of concerts, would have similar trouble.
Anecdotal, and perhaps it doesn't actually contest Arcade Fire is the best, but I'm not sure we'll view them as classic. There is so much music out there that avid music fans can miss huge entries in a genre. I don't think that was as true in the 90s and before.

If you havent seen AF live you are really missing out. By far the best show I have seen this year, and maybe last year too.

I'm sure I'll get the chance, but the albums, frankly, bore the shite out of me. I don't think they're bad, I just don't find anything extraordinary about them. Would not surprise me if they are really good live, as that is pretty common these days even with bands I don't appreciate album-wise.

I just looked at a few big time music magazines/sites/whatever "Best albums of the 2000s" list, and Funeral was like #1 on Billboard, #6 on Rolling Stone, #2 on Pitchfork, #3 on Paste, #7 on NME, etc etc
That's pretty high praise. They will be remembered.

Some of those sites are pretty snobby on their reviews, and I think people tend to get rubbed the wrong way when these "indie" outlets review a band thats hit and miss that highly.
With that being said, Funeral is an amazing, beautiful album. If you get bored with it, that style of music just obviously isn't for you. Which is all good.

It'll be interesting to see. I feel like there are very few good bands/artists that are centrist, which is a new thing. Meaning that in the 90s, alt rock was sort of the standard and pretty much everyone interested in rock listened to it, and you had some respected and talented artists in that extremely popular genre.
Now, with the exception of the pop/country/hip hop fusion garbage that everyone is exposed to, there isn't something comparable in the sphere of mainstream music.
You did have alt-country and in the late 90s, some indie with NMH and such, but the huge majority of us were probably listening to RHCP, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, 311, Everclear, STP, whatever. I'm sure we hated some of it, but they were largely on the same stations, at the same festivals, etc. Alt rock was rock for my generation, and it was pretty mainstream, despite the differences within those bands.
Now I feel like we have 50 subvariations of rock, and they're growing more and more distinct such that I can listen to 10 and avoid the other 40, which means I'm missing a huge swath of the genre. I do think that to the extent there are bands in the middle, Arcade Fire is one, but I still think we're going to end up with knowledgeable music-loving people who have no familiarity with some of the critically acclaimed work of the last 20 years.

BTW, the best review band of the '00s was Spoon:
LINK
Though I'd argue the best band of the post-grunge era is Modest Mouse.

they weren't as bad as I thought they would be at jazzfest.
they were loud and a song or two I heard was interesting.
Plus I met some cool peeps to hang with during the show.
