I was down on the genre about 5 years ago but I have found that I really enjoy a lot of it.

Any fans? What do you rock? Or synth out to?

Some of my recent favs:
Young Galaxy - We have everything - I know, you could argue this is shoegaze. Maybe its both? Either way I really like the whole album.
Chromatics - Kill for love - One of my favorite tracks of 2012.
Cut copy - Hearts on Fire
Craft Spells - After the moment

I was a huge synth pop fan back when I was like 15 (late 80s), and full of angst, I rocked erasure, depech mode, talk talk, new order, and all that other 80s crap. i can't listen to most of it now. Wonder if I will feel the same in 20 years.

I feel like what you're referring to as "synth pop", I call "electropop". And if so, this would actually be my favorite genre of music.

If bands like:
Metric
The Naked and Famous
Passion Pit
Stars
Phoenix
Empire of the Sun
Animal Collective
Ghostland Observatory
Santigold
Little Dragon
Robyn
etc.
...are what you have in mind, then I'm not sure "synth pop" is necessarily the preferred nomenclature. Synth pop is a genre associated with 80s acts like Depeche Mode. It isn't a term I've heard to describe contemporary acts, even if they are making acts using synthesizers and the like.

What about Crystal Castles?

A little heavier/faster.. but I can't help but love them.

Same.

Hands down.

Finally seeing Passion Pit in March will be the highlight of my life

Love everyone you just listed. I've seen Ghostland once but unfortunately drank too much to truly remember :( I went into la-la land when they really got into it. Regret it so much!

favorite synth pop song

Has anybody on this board heard a song by The Knife other than "Heartbeats"?

I mean, I agree that it's a fantastic song. But I bet I've seen the band referenced 30 times on this board, but never once divorced from the song "Heartbeats".

Where are you seeing them?

I've seen them twice and both times it was mindblowing. Last time I saw them I was right up front. It was sweeeet.

I talk about their album Silent Shout all the time on this board. As great of a song as "Heartbeats" is, Silent Shout is their true crowning achievement IMO.

I dunno about that. But anyway, I would say yes to some of these and no to others as "synth pop." I definitely wouldn't call animal collective "synth pop' or "electro pop"

Also, I have seen passion pit live twice. Both times they sucked.

Synth Pop is such a wide term. A lot of music can be thrown into that. But yes, there is a Genre labelled "Synth Pop" and there are still artists who specifically write that style of music.

Iris
Camouflage
Erasure
And One
Marsheaux
Mesh
Schiller
Goldfrap

But to be honest, I hate all the Sub Genres we've created. If it's got a heavy synth influence and it's somewhat Pop music, it can be classified as synth pop to me.

Indie Electronic and Synth Pop are very similar.

Front 242
KMFDM
NIN
Stabbing Westward

Bernard is also in Monaco. Check them out.
2 great albums for New Order/Bernard Sumner fans.

you oughta look up Springsteen's keynote speech at SXSW (I think) this year... it addresses this... funny stuff

here it is... LINK really gets into it about 6 minute mark, but the whole speech is great...

What Do You See (Effective Mix) off the 12 inch single.

I actually like the Art of Mix version of this remix best, but it wasn't on YouTube

Damn I wish I had youtube.
That first album was an instant classic. Still listen to it a lot.

But, Trip is even better. I recommend that album to anyone and everyone, no matter what genre really that they are into.

Do you have their digital issued new one? Artificial Construct?
