Have like his playing since I was in high school (30 years ago).

Every once in a while I’ll get on a blues kick and play some AK.

Freddie is probably my favorite of the three kings. Most intense on the guitar and vocally imo

Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan cut an album, and I listen to it often. AK's Drifting Blues live is hard to beat!

Joe Bonamassa Live at the Greek Theatre is a tribute to these three Kings.
Plays Albert King’s Flying V on I’ll Play the Blues for You.
A lot of songs on You Tube. One of my all time favorite CD.

This. AK is probably my least favorite, but quantify that as least favorite of 3 of the all time great blues players ever.

It’s a left hand model.
Albert played it right side up, Joe is playing it upside down.
I’d just like to hold it. Right side up, upside down, sideways, it wouldn’t matter.
Maybe something magical would happen to make me be able to play like that.

Stop me if I've told this before...

My best friend from my highschool days was a huge blues fan, and he and I attended many great shows in the late '70s-mid '80s. Sometime around 1981 we went to a show at the old Fox Theatre in Atlanta where Albert was the headliner. As was his custom, his band came on and played a couple of numbers without him as a warm-up. Finally, his bandleader (think he was rhythm guitarist) stepped up to the mic and said "Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for the one and only Albert King!" and the band went into a riff.

But Albert didn't show.

The bandleader, somewhat confused, looked offstage. I could see him mouthing "where the hell is he?" to someone in the wings. The band continued its intro, and after a few more words offstage, the BL returned to the mic and repeated, "Ladies and gentlemen, Albert King!!"

Still no Albert.

By this time the BL was visibly concerned, and began walking towards the wings to find out more - when suddenly, the big man shoved past him, his Flying V in his hand. He was PISSED. He stomped across the stage to his amp, while the band riffed on. He stopped at his amp (think it was an old Fender Super Twin), cranked the volume up all the way, and THEN plugged in his guitar, creating that horrid low-frequency thud that contact between the plug and the jack always makes, only this one literally shook the theatre. Still obviously angry, he stepped to the front of the stage, and hit a screaming note. The band stopped.

For the next minute, Albert proceeded to split the skulls of everyone in the joint, playing the meanest, nastiest, LOUDEST guitar any of us had every heard, or ever will hear. The crowd fell totally silent. Whatever it was that had Albert in a foul mood - promoter trying to stiff him, argument with a woman, or any other reason - he took out on that poor Gibson, and our ears, with a jaw-dropping vengeance that defies human description.

Finally, his demons exorcised (or exercised?), he launched into "I'll Play The Blues For You". The band, who were as stunned by Albert's musical rage as the rest of us, joined in, and the show proceeded as normal (which was, needless to say, awesome).

Never got the opportunity to see him in person again, but it's probably just as well, as no encore could ever live up to those few moments of intensity.

Interesting bit of Trivia, Jerry Beach from Shreveport wrote the song I'll Play the Blues for You. AK's album of the same name was nominated for a grammy, and Jerry got a grammy nomination as well for his contribution. Jerry was a really nice man who used to host a killer blues jam in Shreveport. Unfortunately he passed a few years ago. R.I.P.
