An Upcoming Concerts Tool?

So I've always been bad about finding out where to look for upcoming concerts. Obviously it's easy for the bigtime artists, but for the lesser known guys where do yal go to findout where they're going to be? I always seem to find out after the fact.
Is there a website or app where you can put in artists you like plus your location and they'll alert you when they're within X amount of miles or something like that? Seems like it'd be pretty easy to come up with. If there's anything similar to that, please let me know!

songkick works ok. I have RSS feeds of various venues around town. That works ok.
in the end, I just check their websites weekly to see who has been added.

Songkick is pretty awesome. I have the iphone app and it is linked to facebook. So if a band I like schedules something in my town, I get a notification, usually before tickets go on sale.
