He'll be at Chickie Wah Wah on Sunday the 6th. I've never set foot in the place, believe it or not. How is it as a venue?

I don't understand

It's not a venue for him. It will be packed I assume. It's just a regular sized bar with a stage a foot above the floor.

It's not a music venue for any musician close to his level. I wouldn't even call it a 'music venue' to be honest.

I've only ever seen him at small bars with about 100 people there except when Buick MacKane was opening for a bigger band.

Yep, I've seen him many times over the years and the biggest venue was probably the parish room above HOB.

Saw him a couple of times at the old Magnolia in St. Francisville, on the floor, in the corner of the restaurant...

I've never been able to get into him. What should I start with when I try again?

I've always been partial to one of his earlier albums, A Man Under the Influence.
Yeah, Chickie Wah Wah is usually for local N.O. acts. But, Escovedo doesn't get much airplay in N.O. Still, would have thought he would be at a venue uptown, like Gasa Gasa.

Thanks all.

Chickie Wah Wah has plenty of room, but Gasa Gasa seems kind of big. My old high school band typically plays Gasa on NYE, and even though it's packed with friends who descend for the party, they could easily fit 50 more people or so.

Not really... He played in the nuns for fricks sake..: roots in punk rock, but in his older age he wears his Mexican roots on his sleeve... Now that he's more roots rock

They are still around. Jason does solo stuff too and I saw him a few years ago at a small place. Not great but he did a couple of oldies.
