I find some of this funny because I hate many of these artists, and I hate them because of the songs listed

How can you hate the Doors?

Pretty easily. Jim Morrison is one of the more irritating frontmen in the history of irritating frontmen. His third rate poetry striving to be profound is beyond painful to listen to. I rather like the backing band (Manzarek plays a mean organ and Kreiger is a decent guitarist, if they do like to jam for five minutes on the same riff on album, and there's not enough drugs in the world to make that interesting).

But Hello I love You is pretty much everything the Doors aren't. It's short and sweet, with almost no wasted motion in the song. It builds to a payoff, and then they are content to let that shouted "Hello! Hello@" be the payoff. It's a rough and tumble song, with a minimal amount of fussiness. They actually sound like a rock band.

Usually, the Doors spend too much time trying to be poetic or some such nonsense to actually rock out. It's amazing a band that did Peace Frog also recorded Hello I love You. It's also pretty telling this song predates the band's first album and was before they started reading press clippings about themselves.

I'll interrupt the Doors hate to express my dislike of the Rolling Stones except for "Paint it Black" and "Wild Horses".... Other than those 2 songs - I really can't stand 'em.

I listen to the Echo and the Bunnymen cover of it. Good enough for Lost Boys, right?

Heeeeey hold up now. I could listen to Peace Frog before Hello, I love you. But you are spot on about Morrison self-indulgent pretentiousness. But i can't help but like A Soft Parade tune.

Yeah, if you don't like the Stones, you just don't like rock n roll. They are the Platonic ideal rock band.

No. I just feel bad for a guy getting destroyed for hating The Doors so I'm playing human shield for a second.

None of my favorite singers can sing.

But I think Jagger's voice was perfect for their early stuff like Not Fade Away. I should note that all defenses of the Stones do not apply to anything they have done post-Some Girls. Though I do like some of their late period stuff.

I heard a Dylan song last week that made me laugh. All I Really Want To Do. I had only heard the Byrds before. It sounded like a joke.
