etc. (won't throw Disturbed or Linkin Park in here even though they formed in the 90s, they weren't big til the 00s)

I'd almost consider them 2000's.. even though their debut album came out in 1998 (and my favorite SOAD album), it didn't really gain mainstream traction until like late '99-'00.. they really blew up after Toxicity in 2001

Gene Simmons with Dan Rather

Wow, those two couldn't come up with a relevant answer? Color me shocked that someone's grampas can't do a deep dive into music that was popular in their late 50-60s.

I'm pretty sure Gene Simmons hired those guys to kick Rather and yell "Kenneth, What's the frequency?"

Many of those I like also. One of my favorites from the 90's is Garbage. Unique sound and Shirley Manson had a great voice.

phish is predominantly a 90’s band and they’ve already got 40 years together. They’ll be the last ones standing

still selling out arenas and still making new music, year after year after year. Love them, hate them or ignore them but they are still vital and in no way are they going to ever be has beens

Gish is superior. I can remember in college when a bunch of people asked me what i was doing one night I told them I was going to see The Smashing Pumpkins (with Pearl Jam opening and RHCP headlining) at the Municipal Auditorium and they all let out a guffaw over the name. A year later they were all about The Smashing Pumpkins.

The 90s were the last great decade of rock music.
Real musicians playing real instruments.
There's still great music being made, but most of it is overly processed crap.
I should say, most "popular" music is overprocessed crap.
There were a lot of great songwriters in the 90s...

SoCal is where my mind states
But it's not my state of mind
I'm not as ugly sad as you
Or am I origami
Folded up and just pretend
Demented as the motives in your head

Their singer/bass player, Max Collins, is a great Twitter follow (@eve6). He even writes an advice column. Smart, funny guy with some keen insights.

90's Rock is sort of it's own thing. Rock kind of died in the 80's. I know there were some good rock bands then, but rock became this huge production in the 80's and it didn't feel very authentic. Then the 90's came around and Alternative Rock became a thing, which breathed life into rock music as a whole, which was on life support from the 80s.

There will be plenty of bands that will stand the test of time (and already have, really) from the 90s. I think a lot of depends on when you were born, and I'm a 90s kid so I'll always have a soft spot. But I will never get tired of all the great albums in the 90s from all the big bands like:

Smashing Pumpkins
Blind Melon
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Alice in Chains
Nirvana
Bush
Nine Inch Nails
Tool
Red Hot Chili Peppers

...I could go on forever. The 2000's were pretty great too, despite Nu Metal taking over for a few years. Things have been pretty blah for me though since the 2010's.
