Never got to see him live, but when I bought the Austin City Limits DVD & saw him playing behind his back, it gave me chills...good ones.

R.I.P. SRV Life by the drop.

SRV absolutely killed Third Stone From the Sun on "Live from the El Mocambo" along with the rest of the show.
Hendrix never even played that song live and SRV made it sound just like Hendrix' album version.
If you have never seen it do yourself a favor and buy the DVD.
That was a fortunate few hundred people who got to witness lighning in a bottle magic live.

I am old and only a rare few celebrity deaths really hit me. SRV was one as was Dio.

SRV had nothing on Johnny Winter.

For those that don't know,

Lol a ton of people obviously don’t know Clapton was there. Someone wouldn’t just randomly say “I wish it was Clapton instead” in a SRV death thread.

SRV is an all-time great guitarist. Had the rare ability to make the strings sing when he played. 1a and 1b w/ EVH on my all-time greatest list.

Not sure how many are familiar with Johnny Winter but he was SRV before SRV and Duane Allman after Duane Allman.

My Uncle was the same age as either Johnny or Edgar and hung out with them growing up in Beaumont. He would sometimes ride bicycles around the neighborhood with them at night.

Johnny Winter was my first guitar hero. My brother bought the album "Live Johnny Winter And" when I was about 11 years old and it completely blew me away. Johnny's band included Rick Derringer and Randy Jo Hobbs.

On a side note, Tommy Shannon got his start with Johnny Winter and befriended SRV when he was an unknown 14 year old.
