Some good choices this year.

Voted for The Meters, one of the most underrated bands of all-time. Actually was on an Elevator with George Porter a few weeks ago!

Nirvana, Replacements and NWA were a big part of my childhood.

And I am a closet Hall & Oates fan!!!

This x1000. They, along with James Brown, invented funk music.

George Porter Jr is my favorite New Orleans musician. He continues to defy age and brings the funk. Hardest working man in the NOLA music scene.

the fact that it took this long for Linda Ronstadt is a joke.

Voted for them, KISS, Deep Purple, Yes, and Hall & Oates.

There's quite a few there I didn't vote for who are deserving.

frick Nirvana. One good album, thanks to Butch Vig.

Nirvana? First ballot?

Is being a first ballot HOF'er a big deal? Like in sports? Should they be made to wait?

They were only famous beyond Seattle for what 4-5 years before Kurt blew his head off? Like Jimi Hendrix, but SOOO not like Hendrix in changing music. They do get credit for being the first "grunge" band to make it to mine and most peoples ears.

16K votes compared to some of these other lounge acts isa travesty for the Replacements. People need to get off their asses. One of the most influential american bands in history

The RnR HOF doesn't much matter because it has done a truly awful job honoring anything past the Boomer Era. It tries to tell the story of rock post-1980 by leaving out pretty much every major act of the era. 80s indie doesn't exist, neither does pop or hair metal, which was the dominant popular music of the 80s. My buddy and I have an annual thing where we try to put together a ballot of non-nominated artists by taking two artists from each eligibility year, which can be found here: LINK

Here's a well-rounded ballot trying to cover the multitude of genres, and only going back 10 years, so it leaves off deserving artists like the Moody Blues, T. Rex, and Captain Beefheart (to name a few). Remember, I intentionally left off nominated artists.

2013 Fugazi, De La Soul
2012 Pixies, Jane's Addiction
2011 They Might Be Giants, Eric B & Rakim
2010 Megadeth, Indigo Girls
2009 Nick Cave, Flaming Lips
2008 The Smiths, Bon Jovi
2007 Bad Brains, Sonic Youth
2006 Duran Duran, Husker Du
2005 INXS, Africa Bumbaata
2004 B-52's, Def Leppard
2003 Black Flag, The Cure

Your mileage may vary.

On the ballot itself, if forced to vote for five from the current ballot, I'd probably go:

The Mats
Nirvana
NWA
Linda Rondstat
Chic

I could be talked into Yes, as prog is pretty under-represented in the Hall. Or Hall & Oates, who sold a metric crap-ton of records.

I think The Smiths deserve a nod.... if only to have Moz pull a no-show or some sort of incident to avoid sharing the stage with Andy and Mike
