Posted on 5/25/16 at 11:08 am
Posted on 5/25/16 at 11:08 am
Honorable Mentions: Girl Talk 2011, Public Enemy 2013
10. Ellie Goulding - 2013 - Only knew a few of her songs going in, but she rocked out the show and put on a great performance.
9. Lenny Kravitz - 2016 - A true master of his craft. He rocked out with his band. Backup singers were entertaining and horns section was on point.
8. Foo Fighters - 2011 - Actually came out earlier in the day and played a few covers when Cee Lo Green was late. They continued their greatness with a really fun set as the headliner that night.
7. Passion Pit - 2013 - Really energetic performance. The crowd was really into it.
6. Grouplove - 2013 - Early in the day, but had a ton of energy. They were dressed up in far out outfits and rocked the stage from the start to finish.
5. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 2013 - Karen O has an excellent voice and interacted with the crowd. They sounded sharp.
4. Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros - 2012 - They put out a great sound for having so many band members. It felt like the crowd wasn't as familiar with them, but were won over by the end of the set.
3. The Killers - 2014 - Lone 2014 performance to make the top 10. Killers are a great live band and put on an excellent show.
2. Florence and the Machine - 2016 - Had an incredible sound. Florence's voice may sound even better live. They had a great energy and their sound can't truly be appreciated unless it is heard live.
1. Red Hot Chili Peppers - 2012 - The crowd was nuts and the band nailed the performance. They were what you would expect and that is greatness.

I'm sorry man, I'm not trying to be a dick, but that is an extremely shitty list. No Ween 2011? No Cheese 2012? No Paul Simon? No Wilco? What the frick.

Not a fan, so I missed his set. Couldn't care less. But there's no way in frick that he was the 2nd best of the festival. The festival itself was actually kinda meh, all the frickery that happened late at night after it was fun as hell, though. Funnest weekend I have had in a long, long time.

My favorites were:
Alabama Shakes
The Record Company
The Revivalists
Leon Bridges
The Struts
Silversun Pickups
Moon Taxi
The only negative was the lines to enter were f'n rediculous. The FESS company was in charge of checking bags and what not. They went through EVERYTHING. Then the patted you down. They also wouldn't allow any aerosol sunscreen in. You had to throw it. They really need a no bag line..

I went in 2012. I will forever regret not going to see SCI. It would have been my first time seeing Cheese and RHCP. I remember Dispatch played on the main stage so we went to see them. We were up pretty close and decided to hold down our spot for RHCP. Cheese was playing at the other stage on the opposite side of the beach. I decided to stay in that spot while two of my friends went to see Cheese. I didn't think they would make it back to the group. Sure nuff they did. They said it was one of the best shows they had been too. They got to walk right up to the front because everyone else went to see RHCP. I was so pissed. Still am to this day.

All of those bands outside Paul Simon are terrible.

I thought they were fine. They are just checking for illegal drugs and other items. Fine by me.

Like I said the fest itself was OK, but everything else was A+
Had an amazing time. Then again I was on a friends bachelor party and it was chaos

It wasn't in 2010. That's the only one I went to.

Lenny was not great this year..

My favorites this year:
Leon Bridges
Foals
Grimes
Run the Jewels
Vince Staples
Jason Isbell
As to security:
A group of cops descended on a couple of AFrican American kids who were holding balloons. Searched the crap out of them and found nothing. Some smartass standing by the falafel stand yelled. "Black Lives Matter!!" twice... and you could tell he was just being ironic.
The cops let the black kids go and tromped over to the falafel stand. Some worker pointed out the guy who yelled that, and the cops cuffed and stuffed him. It was freaking bizarre and dick headish as hell. It was mainly one big meathead cop who was doing it, and you could tell the other cops were a little uncomfortable with it.
Everyone was whipping out their cameras and filming it. I saw the cops return a little later with the guy in a golf cart, and I think they were going to release him.

I mean its not some checkpoint at the Israeli border, but seeing people dragged out for smoking weed is ridiculous given the festival environment.

I totally agree and had no problem with that. I don't use them so I'm for it. But, being that they searched everybody's bags thoroughly, it held up the line tremendously. I didn't even bring a bag, but had to wait a long time bc nobody reads the signs of what they can and can't bring into the festival. If they would have a "no bag" line for people like me, it would really speed things up. Overall, the weather was nice and the music was awesome.
