EXCLUSIVE: The new 28 Years Later trilogy from director Danny Boyle and Sony Pictures is gaining momentum, and some serious star power. Sources tell Deadline that Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes have boarded the first pic, a sequel to the original 28 Days Later.

Boyle is directing the first movie from a script by Alex Garland. Sony will release the film in theaters globally.

28 Years Later, the hot package from director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, has landed at Sony.

The Culver City-based studio has come out on top after a protracted bidding war to win the rights to the sequel package to the 2002 horror classic 28 Days Later.

Director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland have reunited to write and direct the sequel, which also comes with a Part 2, to be written by Garland. Boyle would only direct the first project, with the sequel’s director to be determined at a later stage. Cillian Murphy, whose career was launched thanks to the original movie, is also returning, as an executive producer. The Oppenheimer star could also possibly act in the project, although details are being quarantined.

Making a sequel called 28 Years Later 22 years after the original. So close.

28 days vs 28 weeks
who ya got?

I thought the second movie was the equal to the first and I appreciated the “unhappy” ending

either way these are the two best zombie movies ever made

I didn’t like the all too obvious anti American allegory due to its production during the height of the Iraq backlash.

The order to “kill everyone” regardless of infected status came too quick and easily.

Also the lack of security at times strains the ability to give benefit of doubt.

Is this even a real question? Days is infinitely better than Weeks…it’s not even remotely close.

And Weeks isn’t a bad sequel either. That’s just how good Days is. It’s excellent and one of the best “zombie/apocalypse” type movies ever made. It’s that good.

I’m all in for another sequel. I do wish Cillian Murphy was gonna be in it though.

I thought they nailed it on the second one. It was exactly what you want with bigger budget sequel.

I still love the first 15 minutes with the dad leaving the wife behind and then running for the boat.

Love 28 Days Later and that it has such an early 2000s feel (mostly because it was filmed on a digital camera from 2001)

Only saw 28 Weeks Later one time but remembered liking it quite a bit as well.

I think this is an unpopular opinion, but 28 Weeks Later was terrible, especially considering the first.

You're telling me that the first thing you do when containment is broken is herd every single person into the SAME LARGE UNLIT ROOM? Then, after you do that you're going to not guard all the entryways?

Why not lock down everyone in their own rooms? Where the spread is limited to those residents?

The opening of 28 Weeks Later to set up the story was 10/10. After the first infection, it's 4/10.

I probably agree with you but I didn’t really like the ending of “days”. Also I thought the soldiers becoming “breed and repopulate” weirdos so quickly after the outbreak was kinda cliche

both great movies each having different highs and lows

in defense of the plot, that situation in London had a very low probability of sustained success

I agree that it wasn’t remotely as good.

Not “terrible”, but not even close to Days.

What bothered me more than anything was that the guy kissed his wife, who was in quarantine, and was pretty much known to be infected but resistant.
