Any LOTR or Harry Potter Movie - hard to pick one but all of these movies are "favorites" because I read all the books as a child so they all feel so familiar and comforting.

Extremely Difficult, but here is a shot at it.
1) Godfather II--absolutely perfect movie in every respect. Incredible performances by John Cazale, Pacino, Elia Kazan and many others. Can watch this over and over
2) Apocalypse now--tremendous movie based on classic literature. You feel the weight of a character for an entire movie that you never see until the very end. Fredrick Forrest, Duvall, Hopper, Brando all give tremendous performances in small roles. Sheen is understatedly brilliant. I love the use of music and symbolism in this one.
3) Trainspotting--Music is used brilliantly in this one. I love the exploration of friendship in this movie amidst the madness of drug abuse. Robert Carlisle gives an unforgettable performance as Francis Begby. Heavy material in this one but they use humor extremely well.
4) True Romance--Probably won't be recognized as great FILM by many, but I love the ensemble cast. There is a great pace to movie and amidst Tarantino's patented dialogue you still develop affinity for the characters. The Hopper/Walken scene is one of the top scenes of any film I've ever watched.
5) Passion (of the Christ) --I'll likely be the only one to put this on my list but I thought Gibson did a brilliant job of telling the story with pictures. The music, sets and costumes are all brilliant. you can watch this without any words and know exactly what is going on. Caveziel gives a portrayal of Jesus that transends mere acting.
It was very hard to leave off a few other films I thoroughly love like Apocalypto, Glengary Glen Ross, Empire Strikes Back, Godfather, and many others
