In my opinion, its one epic long ten hour film split into 3 parts. Almost no one can sit through a single film for over 10 hours.... 4 hours really.

So? It's three separate movies. Hell, it's not even a "Deathly Hallows PART ONE AND TWO" or something like that...it's three different movies that share a storyline.
quote:

Theres a clear beginning, middle, and climax as well as different tone in each of the Star Wars films. LotR.... not so much.

There is a very clear beginning, middle, and end to each of the three movies. Just because you know the story is gonna be continued doesn't mean there's no end to the movies. A trilogy by definition is three movies. So if you put the LotR trilogy in your top 5, then you only have two spots left.

Harry Potter is kinda the same way...you know that each one is nowhere near the end and that it's a series. Sure, each movie has a more clear "ending," but you watch one knowing full well that the story continues for 4, 6, 8 more movies. Doesn't change the fact that there are still 8 (or 9?) movies in total.

Blues Brothers (Duh. Best movie ever.)
Apocalypse Now

To me, Jaws is the greatest film of all time.

Second 5:

Raising Arizona
The Big Lebowski
The Empire Strikes Back
North By Northwest
Planet of the Apes (Heston of course)

Way to difficult to narrow down, my list will change daily, but here's a list of movies I've never not watched everytime their on TV.

All time never change places #1 = Forrest Gump

1. Stand By Me
2. Sandlot
3, Mystic River
4. Caddyshack (Easily most quotable movie ever) and if you don't agree You'll have nothing and like it
5. Casino

told you I forgot Forrest Gump which actually is my number 1 of all time

Am I the only one to have Blues Brothers in mine?

Great laughs, great music, and a great car chase scene. And a nun who wacks people with a yard stick (or whatever it was).
