I watched Event Horizon this evening. Meh. I didn't think it was that big of a deal. I am going to try some of the others listed here.

Humanoids from the Deep. Because I was 5 & had nightmares for months. Haven’t watched it since, though probably not as scary, but back then it messed me up.

the one where the sea creatures were raping the local women?

kind of funny but, my favorite part was when they were fighting the other guys and the one guy says "watch my back, bro". And his brother keeps the others from jumping in.

I so wish we could have gotten an extended directors cut of this. All of the cut footage was damaged though, so it will never happen.

One of those that didn't hold up well on a recent re-watch. I loved it when it was first released.

Hereditary is 5x more disturbing than The Exorcist imo.

I disagree, but both would be in my top 5. The Exorcist, in my opinion, is the all-time most disturbing. However, I'm not a fan of / nor do I really watch the extreme gore, sick-o shite.

Regarding The Exorcist, Linda Blaire did such a great job in portraying that sweet, innocent character, that was overtaken and possessed by the evilest of evil. It gradually built up (noises in the attic, taking her to the psychiatrist, peeing on the floor, and just spiraled more and more).

The cinematography and setting (fall in Georgetown) was perfect, the piano intro of Tubular Bells was perfect, Father Karras' struggle with his own faith added an additional layer.

I encourage you all to read the book as well. It goes more into William Kinderman's (the Detective) investigation of Burke Dennings as well.

Hes really niche but I'm surprised that no Lars von Trier is on the list.

House that Jack Built

Anti-Christ

Some of the stuff that happens in those movies I sort of get queasy thinking about

I think the big ones have been covered though.

My older cousin showed me Cannibal Holocaust when I was still in elementary school so its hard to really go up from there for me

Possession stuff gets me, growing up in church we didn't even watch movies with that in it so it still has that "Do not touch" type classification in my head for me, so yeah the OG Exorcist is up there.

Exorcist III moves up some when you learn that a LOT of serial killers loved that movie

I have actually never seen it. I know of the "nurse scene", but that's it. Is it worth a watch? I heard Exorcist 2, which I haven't seen as well, was a major, major dud.

Event Horizon is one that could've been an all-timer, but the final act is a little too much/ridiculous for me. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie, but when it basically turns into a slasher movie and Dr. Alan Grant goes off the rails, it just turns kinda......silly I guess.

It's one of the same issues I have with Sunshine. Great movie for about 3/4 of it, and then it just turns goofy and suffers from it.

Both of those are movies I love, but would've heralded them as all-time greats had they landed the endings better.

I don’t know if I’d recommend it overall but I randomly watched The Hills Have Eyes 2 in a good movie mindset and it was disturbing to me then but probably not normally so.

Not really a horror film, but EXTREMELY disturbing is the movie "Freaks" (banned in 32 countries!). The final few scenes are really creepy. This movie could never be shown or even made today.

The formula for cheesy teenage horror films never bothered me. We have all seen these movies like Splatter University, Chopping Mall, or Friday the 13th films.

What’s a no go for me is anything that deals with exorcisms, the Devil, or Aliens.

I have to admit that I get anxiety watching Tales From The Darkside episodes.
