Fun fact: The main guy he works with in that episode was a former LSU quarterback who Magnum calls “LSU.”

I didn't know that. I thought I’ve seen all of them. Maybe I've never actually seen the pilot.

I drove past the Masters Estate house when I was in Honolulu. It's not very impressive looking from the road.

One of my all-time favorite shows in the 80's, though. I even loved watching the reruns on USA in the 90's.

Great show, still catch it on Pluto when I’m home early. Magnum then Miami vice back to back is hard to beat.

Where does magnum pi rank on the list of alphabet media detective shows? Pretty high up there for me. Good plots…comedy…good eye candy

Top 3 at least, but I watched it because I envied Magnum's cool lifestyle. I was a kid so watching a guy who lived in a mansion in Hawaii and drove a Ferrari was the peak of cool for me.

As it was for boomers. It made them feel like they were still cool. Land's End accomplished the same goal a decade later.

My big shows back then were The A Team, Dukes of Hazzard, The Fall Guy and this. I don't really rank them in a particular order. They were all great in their own way.

I’m still trying to live Magnum’s life.

—Maybe because it’s been torn down.

I accidentally watched a sneak preview of the first episode in the Fall of 80 before it premiered. I thought it was going to be a great series, mostly because in 1980 we were just giving the Vietnam vets the respect they'd been deprived of for the past two decades, and the pilot episode went in hard on Magnum's military career.

I also remember that the end credits for the pilot just showed his military task force ring with the Knights Templar cross.
