House of Cards for sure. Mad Men after that.

I know you said you prefer dramas typically, but if you're looking for some comedy to break that monotony...

Psych (though I believe you've seen that)
Arrested Development
About a Boy (S2 is airing on TV now)
Silicon Valley (HBO, S1 is short, but awesome. S2 cmoing soon)
Hello Ladies (also HBO. One season and a movie, but it's solid)

top 4 favorite show of all time for me.

I also know Scrubs is a show that has an almost cult-like following. Which would you prefer between scrubs and psych?

To be honest, they are pretty similar, especially in terms of the two main characters on Psych (Shawn and Gus) and two of the main characters on Scrubs (JD and Turk).

Both are great shows IMO, but I do like Psych a lot more.

Scrubs is more sitcom than Psych (plus, it's 30 minutes compared to Psych's hour, if that makes any difference). Scrubs has great characters, and they really did all but master the "serious issues within sitcoms" thing. Some of the best Scrubs episodes can almost make you cry. And the music in Scrubs is nothing short of incredible most of the time.

Psych, on the other hand, is much more subtle and dry a lot of times than Scrubs. Plus, Shawn and Gus comprise one of the best duos in TV history in terms of chemistry and hilarity. Also, Psych is all about 80s/90s pop culture references, so if you're anywhere around 30 years old (or older), or just like that time period in general, then it'll be right in your wheelhouse and you'll fricking love it.

Honestly, I've never had to compare Psych and Scrubs before, and it's not terribly easy to do IMO. But if it helps, as much as I love Scrubs, Psych is likely one of my top 10 (maybe even 5) favorite shows of all time. I'd definitely watch both, but start with Psych.

Both

Both are kind of a goofy type of comedy. Psych has a shite ton of pop culture references. Scrubs can hit you with some great drama and seriousness at times. Both feature the greatest bromances of all time.

ETA: as a counter to coco, I'll say that Scrubs is my favorite sitcom of all time. Its the only sitcom I've ever seen where you truly care about the characters and their stories. That's not to say that I didn't care about the characters in Psych, but I feel that Scrubs provided character depth that you normally don't see in comedies.

Scrubs just had an awesome run between seasons 2-6. I just rewatched them all and it felt like every episode I was thinking "Yes, this is a great episode"

You can't go wrong with either though. And if you do watch Psych and like it, I'd recommend Monk and White Collar as well.

And while we're on comedies, The Office is also one of the GOATs for me.

Also, if this helps:

Office: 9 seasons, 201 half-hour-long episodes

Psych: 8 seasons, 121 hour-long episodes

Scrubs: 9 seasons, 182 half-hour-long epsiodes

I've seen all of the office but that would definitely be a good recommendation.

I think I'll give Psych a try. 8 seasons at an hour long is pretty daunting, but it sounds intriguing.

I'll potentailly try to work a comedy (either psych or IASIP) in between GOT viewings. Definitely wanna watch GOT first though after hearing all the build up.

Game of Thrones, for sure.

I don't think Mad Men is a great binge show. Most episodes are better savored independently, rather than as part of a continuous narrative. Great show, though, but maybe not what you are looking for. 24 is the greatest binge show ever, for these same reasons.

Fargo was fantastic, but Hulu stole the exclusive rights, so might not be an option.

How about Sherlock? Happy Valley was terrific. There are a bunch more BBC/foreign shows on Netflix: Top of the Lake, The Fall, The Silence, Wallander (Kenneth Branagh version), etc. Not sure which of those are still available.

Rectify is really good, if you like slow moving character dramas.

Rake is pretty good, too (Australian version).

The Americans is one of my favorites, but might not be available to you (Amazon, I think).

Seriously, if you like 80s/90s pop culture bullshite at all, Psych is right up your alley.

If you aren't in love with it after a few episodes, then you'll know it isn't for you because it doesn't really change much. The first episode does a great job of explaining the main character (Shawn) and why he's good at what he does, and it just goes from there. FWIW, I expect you to like it.

GoT is great, for sure. Protips for that show though:
1. Pay attention.
2. PAY ATTENTION. Especially after S1..the stories and plots get so spread out that it's difficult to keep up with everybody and everything that is going on. If you're not focused on the show 100%, you will miss some things and be confused (and will likely be like that at times even if you are paying attention).
3. Use subtitles. It helps TREMENDOUSLY.
4. Tread lightly when reading online things about it (not just this board). Spoilers are everywhere, and bookreaders love to spoil shite just to be assholes (thankfully there aren't many around here, but there are some). FB is bad with that while the show is airing. A fantastic site to use if you need some help is Game of Thrones Wiki. Note: do NOT use A Wiki of Fire and Ice, as it is book-info and spoiler heavy. Best thing to do is just google "game of thrones ______" and click the GoTWiki page. It does a great job of explaining things, and details only what's in the show with the exception at bottom of a "in the books" section that is easy to avoid.

I jumped on the GoT bandwagon right before S2, and it's great. Should end up being one of the GOATs as well. Also,

I'll also second 24. Awesome, awesome, awesome show.

I still need to watch S2 and S3 (I didn't start watching until S4).

If I were you I wouldn't binge watch GOT. Spread it out so you finish season 4 right as season 5 starts so you don't have to wait

Almost forgot Justified, but I think it is Amazon only.

Shameless? Dexter? Spartacus? Banshee? True Detective? Boardwalk Empire? Depends what premium channels you have access to.

I surprisingly really like this show. Hopefully it doesn't get canceled and makes it 4-5 seasons.
