Jose Chung's From Outer Space is my favorite episode
Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose will always be the GOAT for me, not just X-Files but in all episodic TV that i’ve ever watched
just perfect from start to finish
“You don’t.”

I never finished the entire series and it’s been a long time since I e watched it so the hankering is back. Just started episode 1 on Hulu
I loved everything about the X-files from day one. I still watch many of the reruns on Cozi tv every day.
The episodes about aliens were always my favorites, and I also enjoyed the Lone Gunmen as well.

Is it time for a X files reboot?

One of my favorite episodes is episode 5:12, Bad Blood. It is one of the comedy ones where they are dealing with a town of vampires. They tell their accounts of the events from their own exaggerated perspectives. It is so brilliant to me.

“Home” is one of the most disturbing hours of television I ever watched. I was lucky (unlucky?) to watch it the night it originally released.
There was no lead-in that it was going to be that way - and was banned (well, not re-broadcast) for the longest.

This show really was groundbreaking as it rekindled the mystery of the supernatural for a whole new audience. So well done during those first several seasons.
Also, I think they were at their best with the monster of the week stories. Really interesting stuff.
ETA: I just looked up Home based on this thread and didn’t know it was directed by Toby Hooper.

Doggett was a dick. All the shite he saw in the first few episodes of s8, how could he not see the Truth. At least Scully in her first years had science to provide some kind of alternative explanation

i realize he was essentially playing a barely fictionalized version of himself, but he did such a fantastic job in his acting debut its a mystery he didnt get more opportunities - he has only one more on-screen appearance in the 30 years since this episode aired
BTW, this and virtually every episode mentioned positively ITT was written by Darrin Morgan (who also appeared as the chief protagonist in one if the others mentioned, “Small Potatoes”)
ETA: Scully may have pretended to eat that cricket, but Gillian Anderson didn’t - like a trouper, she swallowed it whole
