I'm a well-known Nolanite and the release of his latest film always becomes an event on this forum. So let's look back at this man's mainstream filmography and give our individual rankings for his movies. For a refresher, these are the films he has released in theaters during his career:

Following (1998)
Memento (2000) - Academy Award nominee - Best Original Screenplay
Insomnia (2002)
Batman Begins (2005)
The Prestige (2006)
The Dark Knight (2008)
Inception (2010) - Academy Award nominee - Best Picture; Best Original Screenplay
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Interstellar (2014)
Dunkirk (2017) - Academy Award nominee - Best Picture; Best Director

Inception is the best, followed by The Prestige. Dunkirk deserves its recognition, though. One of the Best theater experiences ever.

Interstellar has the best score.

The rest can fight it out.

Insomnia is terrible.

I loved Inception in the theater, one of the better popcorn movie blockbusters I've seen. I liked picking at the plot points and movie logic the next couple weeks. Never had any interest in rewatching it at home.

TDK was great in the theater, wish I had never rewatched it. Drags like hell in the second half; Two-Face should have been pushed to another movie.

Memento is good, but I'll watch about anything with Guy Pearce. It does feel like a gimmick movie, and I didn't like the supporting cast.

I didn't find Christian Bale a compelling enough villain to justify Hugh Jackman's obsession in The Prestige. The sci-fi sequences were great, anything character-centric I thought was pretty lame.

I watched Insomnia once, 15 years or so ago, on AMC or something. It was edited all to hell. All I remember was Robin Williams being a good villain.

Haven't had any interest in the rest of his work.

Memento - really need to rewatch this again.
The Prestige
Dunkirk

The Dark Knight
Inception
Batman Begins
Following

Interstellar
The Dark Knight Rises

I don't remember Nolan's version of Insomnia well enough to rate or rank it.

Don't hate any of these, though I don't have any strong to desire to rewatch Interstellar or tdkr again.

It only took you like 8 years to recognize this. Congratulations.

My ranking:

Tier 1
The Prestige
Memento

These are both modern classics and show a command of film and narrative that his other films just can't touch. The Prestige will be a renaissance film in 20 years when people forget about it - And then realize just how good it is.

Tier 2
Batman Begins
The Dark Knight
Inception

Tier 3
Interstellar
Following
Insomnia
Dunkirk

Tier 12
The Dark Knight Rises

I've never denied it. I did deny, however, a common held belief that I regard Nolan as infallible. No filmmaker is perfect. However, I love people who take risks while still giving us highly entertaining films. Nolan is one of the few mainstream directors doing that today.

The Prestige is probably my favorite movie of all time, so that's #1 for me.

Prestige
TDK
Memento

Inception
Interstellar
Batman Begins

TDKR
Dunkirk

Haven't seen: Insomnia and Following.

Interstellar and Inception go back and forth for me. Sometimes I think they are incredible and sometimes I think they are just good-to-great movies. I think Inception is likely the better of the two, and I appreciate the world he set up with it and how intricate it was. Interstellar would be top tier for me if not for the fumbled ending. And I appreciate what he was trying to do with it, the ending just fell sort of flat for me and they went a little overboard with it. But everything up to the last 20-30 minutes or so is pretty incredible though.

TDK is his best comic movie for me. BB is great too, but not as good IMO. And TDKR is the weakest.

But all of that being said, I have liked every Nolan film I've watched and think they are all good movies. Some are just better than others. And The Prestige just hit me in the right spot and quickly became one of my favorite movies ever. And it was one of the best theater experiences I've ever had as well. So that's my #1.
