Is this the most disturbing scene in a kid's movie ever? I think so.

Here's a fun fact, none of the actors save Gene Wilder knew the tunnel scene was coming. They had the lines but they thought it was just a boat ride. When the lights came on and Wilder started singing, that was real terror on the faces of the other actors.

Tame by standards today, but that was pretty damn creepy for a kids flick back in the day.

I know nothing about that, but it is scary how you do.

Yes. Out of place, weird, nonesensical, seems to add nothing, yet you just sort of roll with it.

Looking back at the movie it was pretty cheaply made. It is clear the boat never moves, every "labarotory" is clearly a stage set without a ceiling; they did spend a little money on whatever warehouse they turned into the initial reveal scene. Which has one of the best movie songs in history.

If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it. Anything you want to, do it. Wanna change the world? Theres nothing to it....

O.e of my favorite movie songs after Rainbow Connection.

Is there any way not to sing that song in Kermit's voice?

Its would be like singing a Pearl Jam song without sing it in a stupid Eddie Vedder voice.

Actually Willie Nelson has a decent version on YouTube but of course Kermit owns the song.

Actually...it did move. Everyone, with the exception of Gene Wilder, was completely freaked out doing that scene. The Oompa Loompa who was on the wheel was told by the director that he was the one steering the boat - neglecting to tell him that the boat was on a track. So when the lights went out in the tunnel, the extra "steering" the boat was freaking out because he couldn't see where he was going. The actors had no idea what was happening because they weren't briefed on the scene at all, just given dialogue to speak. And then Gene Wilder started singing really creepily and acted that part out so well that the child actors and adult actors thought he was going insane. All of their creeped out facial expressions are genuine.
