Up the airy mountain,
Down the rushing glen,
We dare not go a hunting,
For fear of little men.
You see, nobody ever goes in, and nobody ever comes out.

The contest was a ruse - a cover. Charlie was 100% pre-selected (He had to pass the gobstopper test, of course, but none of the others were really in the running).
This is correct. Wonky said he had his eye on Charlie in the beginning. Slug worth was there to make Charlie the offer before it was widely known he had the golden ticket.

It had to be a plant - "Slugworth" and the Candyman were in cahoots to get Charlie the last ticket.

What do you mean by this? Slugworth was there when Veruca Salt won before it was announced globally

All the tickets were plants. But only Charlie was in the running.

That first picture it looks like Christopher Lloyd playing the Grandma.

frick Grandpa Joe, one of the sleeziest no-good characters in cinema history.
Dude sat on his arse for years while Charlie's mom worked double shifts all day. Only to get off his feet when an opportunity arises.
Grandpa Joe would have taken his kids covid unemployment checks too I bet.

Looking at it through the lens of Christian allegory I believe that he was actually crippled and was healed by hearing the Good News.
He was, however, a thief.

Interesting theory about the kids being preselected. Since Slugworth was present each time, I'll go with it.
Even if Charlie was selected as the favorite, stole Fizzy Lifting Drink, I always thought returning the Gobstopper was the only way to win and was in the contract.

I believe that Wonka represents God, the ticket represents the Gospel, the gobstopper represents Charlie's soul, and Slugworth represents the devil
hmmmmmmmm

The overriding theme of the book and movie is that “the meek shall inherit the earth”.

Grandpa Joe may be up there with Rose and Jenny as the most evil characters of all time.
Was Wonka aware of what a piece of shite Grandpa Joe was? Charlie was blind to it and that could put the entire Willy Wonka empire in jeopardy if Grandpa Joe exerted his influence over Charlie.

This isn't true. The guy pretending to be Slugworth is a Wonka operative named Wilkinson.

No, no, that's not Slugworth. He works for me.

This isn't true. The guy pretending to be Slugworth is a Wonka operative named Wilkinson.
In the context of Wonka=God/Slugworth=Devil, the fact the guy was “pretending” to be Slugworth just makes it more thought-provoking theologically.
We never see the “real” Slugworth in the movie. In fact, it’s possible he doesn’t actually exist other than a name on a candy wrapper.
So, Wonka tempts each of the contestants by sending someone pretending to be Slugworth to offer them riches if they provide him with the Everlasting Gobstopper, which Wonka himself had given them. Charlie believed the guy was really was Slugworth, but voluntarily gave his Gobstopper to Wonka. Only then was it revealed that Slugworth wasn’t really Slugworth, but worked for Wonka.
Now substitute “God” for “Wonka”, “Satan” for “Slugworth”, “eternal soul” for “Everlasting Gobstopper” and re-read the above paragraph.
Interesting, no?

Wonka purposely invite bad kids so he could have a local kid he wanted to run the factory watch as he tortured the bad kids with their vices?
He had to know otherwise sluddgeworth wouldn’t have had the time to be at the announcements by each winner plus each kid that won their attitudes or desires matched a certain room in the factory except Charlie

Rather than typing it all out again I'll just do a little shamless self promotion.

Mike Teavee proved this by being allowed to find the ticket he was supposed to receive since he wasn’t a big candy eater.

I think some of you are reading way too much into this story. It's not religious or metaphysical. You knew at the beginning Charlie was going to win. That was teed up pretty easily.
The real story was about those shitty kids and the message the Oompa Loompa's were warning parent's to be mindful of:
Augustus was a glutton
Violeta was a chewing gum junkie that had no self control
Veruka was a little spoiled brat
Mike TV was a TV junkie
The parents were also thrown under the bus for allowing their kids to be so rotten.
The final message was if you are a good person then good things will come to you...
Charlie was not Jesus

Whole family is eating cabbage and water soup for dinner, but Grand Pa Joe gets coin for his tobacco.
Probably killed him inside to give it to Charlie for his second wonka bar.
