I don't think it is possible for that to guy like Donner Superman, if he thought Gunn's was too campy

I'm amazed by the amount of leeway people give to Reeve's Superman.

Fantastic 4 & Thunderbolts were better imo

Can't speak to TB, since I have not seen it; however, F4 was a better movie overall, but SM was way more enjoyable and fun. Both are exceptionally flawed though. Calling either of them not good is wrong; they are decent enough movies

I thought it was pretty great. It was fun and it didn't feel like a setup for movies that may or may not happen until 2029, so that was a huge improvement over the last few Marvel movies. It was filmed in color, not in grey, so that was a huge improvement over Man of Steel.

Hard to blame Snyder

No one ever blamed Snyder.

It was the studio that chose to not delay the production. They pushed forward with Whedon. Could have gone a different way.

Why was Superman not very good?
It was very good.
The casting was great.
The story was easy to follow, made sense, and was very good.
The extra characters were used well and made sense for the story.
It expanded the universe without forcing unanswered questions.
The parents and adoptive parents were the only real bad or less than good parts.

Overall it was very good, performed extremely well considering the current state of the box office, and (best of all) it didn't hamstring the future of this DCU with promises that it cannot keep.

Needed to make 700K, minimum.

This is a solid, if not massive bust.

That's not the industry standard for the break even point. That feels like a totally made up number.

First of all, it is. Second of all, Gunn basically lied when he said how much the budget was, because it was accurately reported on tax documents.

He's lying, or the documents are falsified.

Pick one.

But this isn't some B team character like Ironman was, in 2008. This is Superman. DC's top 3, and this movie needed to be a juggernaut.

How excited you think the public is going to be for drunk, partin' Supergirl?

You said before it needed to be between 600-700. Are you changing that now?

I'm holding to that. It's not yet at 600 million. Going to streaming a lot sooner than most expected.

Streaming revenue will get it to 700.

That’s not a huge bust. That’s 6 million away from your number. Wouldn’t a bust be considered something losing money? I’m just asking what your definition of busy is.

I think I've told you several times over. 700 is 'nice', but not a massive win for a SUPERMAN movie.

750 would be better.

But good for Gunn to undersell it, calling a double 'fine' instead of hitting a towering home run.

So it’s either “nice”, or “huge bust”?

Do you really think that’s an accurate representation of the situation?

The industry standard is 2.5x the budget.

I'll pick the documents are incorrect and you pick he's lying and then neither of us knows what the exact break even point is. That will stop me from making declarations of fact but won't stop you for some reason.

What do you mean specifically when you use the words "needed" and "juggernaut"?

Cool, let's see the breakdown of all the financials. I'm sure you have access to Superman‘s balance sheet. I look forward to reviewing it with you.

"Specifically" ?

I've told you several times.

Why do you keep harping on this? This movie didn't bump the fandom like it needed. And stop blaming ' current day box office'. Movies that are good are getting the profit they deserve.
