Think that's part of the point.

All of the leads they were given were crap. They were deliberately set up to fail.

Machine was set up to fail for sure. The office manager blatantly says it near the end.

A good question is whether Roma is turning chicken shite into chicken salad or if the leads he got were that much better than the other three.

If nothing else, he knew immediately from hearing the name “Patel” that the lead was a waste of time, which at least showed more savvy than the other three.

That is kind of the point of the scene. Look at the characters who are present. They are all down on their luck complainers. They don't sell because they can't sell. There's a reason why Roma isn't in that scene.

But did any of the salesmen go up to Baldwin and say "Hey man, I get what you're saying. What can I do to be more like you?"

Baldwin may have helped them, he may not have. But their response was to still complain that the leads were shite, while Roma is out there winning the sales contest.

This is probably my favorite Cracked article of all time, and it takes a decent deep dive into it and why it matters.

That's the kind of article that would make anyone kick arse in the game of life if they absorbed it's message

do everything you can to make your home life fulfilling and happy but when you are at work, your job is to provide a service and you will be judged utterly and only by the quality of your work.

Honestly, your "job" in respect of your home life is the same way.

I slightly agree. In my experience, some of the best sales people are those that need to sell. Sure, you have the occasional born rich guy who has lots of connections, but for the most part, the best of the best are the ones who absolutely have to make it, or starve.

Even if those people aren't built with the "sales bone", they will work to find it.

Being a true salesman can be a damn mental disease

I know some old school salesman types who are real POSs out of work because they always have to be hustling, and have a one track mind on making themselves successful, which tends to burn a lot of bridges in their personal life. They only have that one switch.

Great guys to have a beer with, but Otherwise
