They react to adversity differently, Pete is petulant and whiny, Don just rolls his eyes, says frick all y'all and pours more scotch. Don's demons go much deeper, I think. He is really farther gone than Pete.

Not really IMO. Do they do similar shite to cope with their inner issues? Absolutely. But Don has levels of fricked up in that onion of his that we haven't even peeled our way down to. I think you can at least make the argument that he has a legitimate reason to be this fricked up. Pete's psychosis is that he's a brat from money who is pissed that Don Draper is more Don Draper then him.

I think the wives of the two characters play somewhat into the perception. Betty was/is an insufferable bitch, while Trudy is awesome.

Pete grew up in a wealthy home with every opportunity available to him. He turned into a petulant prick with no care for anyone else but himself. He also had Trudy who is (thanks to photos of Allison Brie) the hottest girl on the show yet still has the charm of being a wonderful housewife. frick Pete.

Betty was a selfish bitch we could empathize with Don for cheating on her.
Trudy is a hotty that does everything for Pete.
Plus, Don is a lot more manly than Pete.
That being said, I'm having a hard time with Don's actions this season.
