Kubrick gets too much love based on his earlier films. He made his last four films over 24 years (75-99) and two of them (BL, EWS) are just not good. A lot of people don't know that he cut 25 minutes out of The Shining when it was released overseas, resulting in a tighter, less tedious film.

His run from Spartacus to Clockwork is damn impressive, though.

Kubrick hands down. I love Nolan movies, but Kubrick films are a study in filmmaking.
