Surprised at the amount of people saying Whitaker

The Shield might be the best piece of acting on the entire list - it's at least top 5 with 12 monkeys, tgtbtu, etc. Whitakers highs are higher than Denzel. It is close, but still, I give the nod to more range and higher highs - that's Whitaker.

There is no plane of existence in which Forrest Whitaker is a better actor than Denzel Washington

It was Clooney for a long time. Pitt has closed the gap.

When was it ever Clooney?

They both started making big strides in movies around the same time Clooney was out there making Batman and Robin, Peacemaker, and From Dusk til Dawn while Pitt had already made 12 monkeys and Seven.

And that was before Pitt even peaked as an actor/movie star.

The more I look at it, 1 and 3 are the only ones that are even close enough for a debate

1) Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell?

Sandler and it's not even close. Sandler has a much bigger range than Ferrell and the Hanukah Song should serve as a tie breaker for those on the fence.

2) Brad Pitt or George Clooney?

Brad Bitt has much more range than Cloney could ever have. Cloney is famous for being famous. Outside of "O Brother Where Art Thou" his delivery is fairly repetitious.

3) Russell Crowe or Mel Gibson?

I like Both but Mel's the Man by a country mile. Crowe has a few marquis performances but Mel has a long list and he has a comedic range that Crowe doesn't have.

4) Denzel Washington or Forest Whitaker?

Forest can't lay a glove to Denzel. He's a good actor but DW pissed ice cubes because he's so cool. Training day was a definitive movie because he played a villain so well it was disturbing. Also, the way he when head to head with Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide shows he kneels to no man on the talent scale.

5) Gene Hackman or Clint Eastwood?

Damn..I love both but I have to go with Hackman. Tomorrow I could change my mind because it's so close. Both could act in just about anything including comedy. I guess the tie breaker would be in films when shite goes sideways Eastwood's characters still are cool and level headed dudes and Hackman can rage much better and really show the emotional range that I don't think Eastwood can do.

Another person who needs to watch Last King of Scotland - that's PSH good acting (although I think Denzel is a fantastic actor - as good as any in this thread, except maybe Hackman).

That's not even close. McConaughey has killed it since Dallas Buyers Club. That, True Detective, and White Boy Rick blow anything Pitts done out of the water.

My god the level of Pitt disrespect is insane he’s not Channing Tatum. Pitt is one of the best actors out there

Snatch, Moneyball, and once upon a time in Hollywood are far better performances than MM’s best performance, and I like MM as a dramatic actor a lot. But it’s not close

Mother fricker said white boy rick

Multiple people in this thread suggesting Brad Pitt can’t act. I’ve lost all my faith in this board.

I like the Leo to Cruise comparison, both are sort heart throb and part intense emotions, with a large body of work. It made me think of the fact that Cruise has had multiple franchises, Jack Reacher, Mission Impossible and probably more iconic roles, Jerry Maguire, Top Gun, A Few Good Men, Rain Man, The Color of Money, Born in the 4th of July, etc. Leo doesn’t not have same the impact as Cruise.

So then question becomes: who does? Maybe Harrison Ford.

Better actor Harrison Ford or Tom Cruise?

Its a shame he's only signed up for the franchise action roles the last 2 decades

Couldn't agree more. I'm stunned the amount of people that have chosen him over Denzel. Like seriously?

Outside of The Last King of Scotland, Whitaker has literally done nothing else special.

Denzel would leave him in the dust in terms of acting. Outside of maybe the past couple years, Denzel has been the best actor for 35-40 years. And it's not debatable.

He started getting weird in the late 90s, and had a couple bombs so he decided to insulate himself from that possibility for the rest of his career.

If anyone has any doubts about his talent, watch Magnolia. Incredible

1) Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell? Might have said Ferrell before Uncut Gems, but that movie showed Sandler can act. Before that I didn’t think either were particularly good actors just comedians

2) Brad Pitt or George Clooney? Pitt, but I can see the argument for Clooney

3) Russell Crowe or Mel Gibson? Gibson.

4) Denzel Washington or Forest Whitaker? Denzel is a better leading man but Whitaker is a better actor

5) Gene Hackman or Clint Eastwood? Probably Hackman
