The intention is determine actor vs actor?

1) Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell?

2) Brad Pitt or George Clooney?

3) Russell Crowe or Mel Gibson?

4) Denzel Washington or Forest Whitaker?

5) Gene Hackman or Clint Eastwood?

I’d appreciate any thoughts as to why you think so!

Thanks for getting the ball rolling! I particularly was interested to see you pick Gibson over Crowe and Whitaker over Washington.

Sandler
Pitt
Crowe

Hackman

This was honestly way way way easier than I thought.

So in essence you are flipping a coin on the others? Whitaker has not had the better movies for sure, and therefore it is a tough comparison.

Surprisingly Sandler can do more than he's known for, but Ferrell does his thing way, way better than Sandler can do anything except comedy songs.

2) Brad Pitt or George Clooney?

It was Clooney for a long time. Pitt has closed the gap.

3) Russell Crowe or Mel Gibson?

Crowe, but not by as much as one might think.

4) Denzel Washington or Forest Whitaker?

Too close to call. Both are as good as it gets when they're on and they're usually on. Obviously, Denzel was much more of a leading man, overall, but Whitaker is one of those "no small parts" guy - he was in one scene in Color of Money and completely stole Cruise's movie in that scene, just as one example.

5) Gene Hackman or Clint Eastwood?

Hackman is a better actor. Eastwood is a better movie star.

Ferrell (Sandler probably has the two best movies, but he’s done so much shite that I’ll give will Ferrell playing will Ferrell the win here)

Pitt (this one was tough)

Crowe

Denzel

Hackman

To be honest your matchups were pretty spot on. The only really easy one was gene Hackman.

I don’t really consider any of them as particularly great actors. Theyre more stars than actors I guess.

Ferrell, if for no other reason than Sandler has essentially played the same character in nearly every movie of his for 20 years.

2) Brad Pitt or George Clooney?

Pitt. Honestly think he gets a bum rap with the 'character actor in a leading man's body' reputation, especially with his body of work over the last decade plus.

5) Gene Hackman or Clint Eastwood?

Gibson, Whitaker and Hackman have broader range.

I’d pose another question, based on the pairings you have, if you were only able to watch one pairings movies for the rest of your life which one would you select?

I’d go with Pitt-Clooney.

Forrest Whitaker is one of the worst actors of all time. Anyone who says him vs anybody should not be listened to

1) Will Ferrell is funnier to me. But Adam Sandler has played more difficult roles. Uncut Gems was good and he's done other good roles. He phones it it more comedically than Will, but Sandler is the better actor.
2) Difficult choice because I don't think either is particularly good. I guess Pitt for a little more range--thinking if Burn After Reading and Inglorious Basterds.
3) These are really tough. I like both these guys. Gotta give the nod to Mel Gibson. Russel Crowe is maybe a little more "one note."
4) To me, this is the only one on this list that's not even close. Denzel is an all timer, and I find Forest Whitaker to be incredibly overrated.
5) I hate to do it but I gotta give it to Gene. Again, there's that range again. Though Clint is iconic.

This was a great set of (mostly) difficult choices.

How about:
6) Damon vs DiCaprio? (too easy for me--Leo pretty much never misses, but I am a big Damon fan).
7) Deniro vs Pacino (Deniro)
8) Tom Hardy vs Ryan Gosling

The Shield might be the best piece of acting on the entire list - it's at least top 5 with 12 monkeys, tgtbtu, etc. Whitakers highs are higher than Denzel. It is close, but still, I give the nod to more range and higher highs - that's Whitaker.
