Who is rereading The Hobbit to prepare?

Debating on whether I should do this or not. It's been awhile since I read it, so I'm wondering that if I read it if the movie won't come up to my expectations.

I love the book, but I might watch the cartoon movie instead.

I think this movie is reaching Datk Knight Rises level of hype on this board.
I'm not expecting much. Attempting to make a trilogy out of such a small book is giving me doubts.

Just finished re-reading it yesterday

I want to reread up to where this movie is supposed to end but I'm not sure where to stop.

I'm watching the movie with a relatively "fresh" mind, then going back and rereading.

watched this a ton as a kid
I think I'll wait until after the first one at least to re-read.. might be fun to not quite remember everything.

I would but, school, work, and still trying to finish the Millennium Trilogy.

Took me quite a while too. Those are books are fat as fock.

I finished retreading it about two months ago. Going through TLotR for a second time now, in Two Towers (i've read The Hobbit 3 times). School has been blocking my extracurricular pretty hard though.

No way I could read it before the movie comes out. Read it back in 5th grade for Accelerated Reading. 30+ points

Just finished re-reading the appendices, where a bunch of stuff is being used for the films.
I recommend this.

You could read it in a few days if you got some spare time. But if you're like me, you don't.

I made it halfway through until a friend mentioned he hadn't read it yet so I loaned it to him. I went back to the appendices in the mean time.

That's not the problem, I just don't have time. Two papers and two back to back test. All in the next week. I'm doing homework as we speak.

A friend of mine got me the graphic novel of The Hobbit for my birthday knowing how much I was looking forward to the movie. I had already read the book and have never read a graphic novel or comic book before this. I enjoyed it. It followed the book very closely and caught me up on everything. I already read the appendices to the LOTR within the last year before I knew they would be included in the movie, so I am all set there too.

I agree with you. I can't imagine how they are going to get ~9 hours of film out of a 300 page book.
That said, I'm still going to see all 3 of them.

I do not understand people who keep saying this. There is a lot of action in the Hobbit that is merely alluded to and this trilogy will draw from more than just the Hobbit. It will also include stuff from the appendices to the LOTR, which is a lot of pretty awesome things I am looking forward to watching.

You could do two movies on what is in the books alone.. they are using the stories from the appendix and expanding on them as well.. it's an entire world.
If 24 can do 24 hours of him driving around los angeles you can turn the hobbit into 9.
