That was kind of my point. As a "swordsman", The Mountain is not that impressive.
The most battle tested warrior in the realm would of had to have been Drogo. Their existence was one battle after another.

I'd say the Hound is still probably the overall best living swordsman. He has power, but he doesn't solely rely on it. He's classically trained, but can be vicious as shite on the battlefield. He's also quick for his size and with armor at that. He's just the complete package that can adapt to any situation he's given. His only major problems are his drinking and his fear of fire, which he has overcome in the past regardless.

To be clear there, Oberyn was using poison to cripple the mountain and using a spear. In a sword v. sword Oberyn goes down like a bitch.

The poison Oberyn used was a slow killing poison.

Still it ain't as if that made the Mountain better. Sword and sword, Oberyn can't employ his central strategy

Not saying he's the best, but on the show Jorah wasn't a slouch until his last episode.
Again, not the best, but could hold his own more often than not.

None of y'all are giving Ned enough credit. I think him and Jaime were around the same. And he clearly was bested by Arthur Dayne. But Ned fought in a lot of battles and Selmy himself said he was a pretty skilled fighter.
My answer depends on who's alive. The Hound, Bronn, Jorah, Daario, and maybe Jon Snow/Dondarrion are all pretty badass.
Also, if you wanted to win a war, I'd say Ned Stark was your go to guy to lead the army.
Eta: Just thought of one and an surprised nobody has mentioned him yet...fricking Tormund Giantsbane is s huge badass.

yeah, but this thread says currently the best swordsman, so Ned isn't even in contention.
oh, and +1 on Bronn votes

Yeah I guess I should've clarified with "was"

Bronn vs Daario
who you got?
Bronn is my favorite character so I'm going with him.

I'd want Bronn to win, but I sadly have to go with Daario.

Ned isn't a slouch, but I don't think anyone in universe ever counts him among the elite warriors. For example Robert is pretty well known as better fighters when they were growing up in the Vale.
Posted on 6/5/16 at 6:57 pm to CorporateTiger
While what you say about Robert is true, it doesn't mean that Ned wasn't a highly skilled fighter.
Posted on 6/5/16 at 7:06 pm to TigerFanInSouthland
By virtue of being a properly trained fighter, Ned is one of the better fighters in Westeros. Just not elite
Posted on 6/5/16 at 7:32 pm to CorporateTiger
That's being pretty technical. I'm pretty sure he just means who's the best one on one warrior in westeros

Except that when it was time to win a war Robert led the army, not Ned.

I'm hoping Sam gives Tormund Heartsbane. Tormund wrecking shop with a two handed greatsword would be awesome.

Jon Snow is probably up there.
Brienne is probably the best though.
Characters she's beaten:
Loras Tyrell
Jaime Lannister
The Hound
Just to name a few.
She's a beast
