LOTF is a great film. Gorgeous and moving. If you can, watch the deleted scenes on the Blu-ray Disc and it comes together even better. Wish they would release extended version.

His travels abroad and contact with his grandfather explain some plot holes.

My wife loves it just to watch Pitt … “he cries so pretty.”

Anthony Hopkins and “Stab” steal the movie. But Aidan Quinn is at his best in this movie.

I enjoy them both, and agree with the sentiment the River is a better written movie.

I do love the scenery and soundtrack of Legends more than River.

Aidan Quinn's character is so relatable. Always plays second fiddle to the handsome younger brother, does things the right way while Pitt messes everything up but everyone still loves him more. Marries his brother's sloppy seconds and she still would rather the other brother after he gives her a good life being a Senator's wife. Great to watch that dynamic play out.

They are both great. But Legends of the Fall is one of my favorite movies

I have the think that Julia Ormond had the most covetous role in the world during that time of LOTF.

Even I want Tristan to piimb when watching him ride up and the that herd of horses over the hill

River runs through it is probably a top 10 all time movie for me.

Legends of the fall is good but not great., imo.

I wouldn't put it top 10, but I agree with your general sentiment. A River runs through it is fantastic, and Legends is a solid movie with some serious flaws.

Both incredible movies but I leave heavily towards Legends because it just does a lot more, covers a lot more ground and space.

A River Runs through It is just an amazing film. Honestly, Robert Redford could read stereo instructions and I would listen.

ARRTI. And it’s not even close.

My grandfather was a fisherman and gave me some of my first fishing tackle. Every time I watch that movie I think of him.

Norman Maclean was an excellent author. If you haven’t read the book, I highly encourage you to do so.

I didn’t realize how many people like the movie as much as I do. I believe it’s a nearly perfect film. Among other things, there’s nothing missing and nothing superfluous.

Perhaps somewhat ironically, I think Man On Fire is also a nearly perfect film for the same reasons.

I love both. LotF is the highest quality of soap opera. It’s the more rewatchable of the two. ARRTI is like art.

It is a very real (I mean honest) story and perfectly put to film by Redford.

We have all seen the failures of our ourselves and others, and have felt helpless at some point. The father and brother of the Brad Pitt character, not only saw the troubled life of the son/brother, but also saw the perfection - which only a father/brother can.

It’s about as close to a perfect film as you can find.

I like Legends of the Fall better. Both great movies, but Legends of the Fall is more epic. I've watched it more times than A River Runs Through It.
