I think the fact it WAS a TV series from the 80s makes it more impressive, honestly. It holds up, still.

And that cast. Good grief.
Duvall
Jones
Diane Lane
Schroder
Chris Cooper
Urich
Glover
DB Sweeney
Anjelica Houston
Barry Corbin
Buschemi

And maybe some other legit stars with careers in a 1980s mini series? Today with streaming it would be almost normal, but back then...that's crazy.

Final Scene

Young reporter: They say you carried your friend 3000 miles just to bury him. Is that true? They say both of you were Texas Rangers back in the old days and that you cleaned the Comanches out and the bandits. Is that true? They say you started the first cattle ranch up in Montana. They say you're a man of vison!

Captain Call pauses - Music swells Captain Call recalling memories

Young reporter: Captain Call?

Captain Call: A man of vision you say......Yea, Hell of a vision

Captain Call walks away

The show didn’t change much at all about the main story of the book. But then they nailed the change to the ending. That’s impressive to me.

Man, I love Robert Duvall, but he uses those mannerisms in every movie he's in. That's honestly just Duvall. He's awesome, but he's the same in all his movies.

I'll put Robert Duvall up against anyone as the greatest American actor ever.

Lonesome Dove

Been a favorite since I saw mini-series when I was about 8-9 years old. I have watched it several times, since, and it is still just so good. Gus, Call, Deets etc. are just such great characters. And I remember thinking just how beautiful Diane Lane was.

My favorite thing ever put on film. I watch it once a year. I used to have 2 beagles that were named Gus and Woodrow.
