We're watching a re run of HIMYM. It's some stupid episode where Ted goes out on a boat with The Captain. When did this show get so damn unfunny?

Not sure if I can pinpoint and exact jump the shark moment.

It's not as good as it once was, but, now I am watching it just to see if my theory about the identity of the mother is accurate.

Its been so long for me that I can't remember it being funny. I know I used to like it because I remember telling people about it when it first came out. I just don't really remember it being funny. I think I may go back and watch earlier episodes to see if I still find those funny.

I just feel like I need to watch it until the end now becasue I need to know how it ends. I just hope it ends soon. Its getting harder and harder to watch every week.

I was actually fast forwarding through parts of it this week where they kept doing the same thing over and over again at the concert. The implication was supposed to be that they smoked weed. They were acting like they ate 3 bags of mushrooms and had no idea where they are.

They need to reveal the mother. It might actually save the show. Of course, it could kill it but at the rate it is going, it will die soon anyway.

I've been saying that for the last few years. At the rate they are going, Ted's kids are going to be in their 30's before he meets their Mom.

Ever since Marshall's dad died, the life has been sucked out of the show. The first half of last season was really funny, but after that happened it was depressing watching the show. Also, before that, Barney dating Robin ruined both of the characters.

The Captain is one of my alltime favorite characters on the show. If you're talking about the episode I think, I laughed my balls off.

I think some of the air has gone out of HIMYM, but it's still a strong show. It's just run its course and its time to take it in for a landing. The mother doesn't matter, really.

I used to really like HIMYM. Now it's like Friends at the end. Not really funny but you want to know what happens.

I just watched the episode where Ted skips the date with the girl they found him from the match service.

Kind of frustrating

I agree with all of this.

It was the episode Ted thought the Captain was going to murder him on the boat.

Yes.

When she played the frick out of him in the most recent episode, that shite was brutal, but at the same time i was happy bc I hate that they actually dated. Really ruined them.

Curious to see how Barney will react to it. Remember when he was all gay about meeting his real dad. I think it'll be a lot like that.

How I Met Your Mother. Jumping the Shark is when the writers of a tv show realize that the show is past it's popularity peak, so they start writing outrageous, off the wall crap in the script to try and get viewers to keep watching. The term comes from an episode of Happy Days where the writers made Fonzie jump a shark on a pair of water skis.

I will continue to tirelessly campaign to get this changed. It's not a good example of what it's meant to illustrate. Happy Days was still #1 for years after that episode.

"Porking Angela" is much better way to say the same thing. A real example of a show going over the ledge was when Tony started porking Angela on Who's the Boss. That's why I reiterate my proposal that "jump the shark" be replaced with "porking Angela". Observe:

HIMYM really porked Angela when Barney started dating Robin.
